      Benefits Have Dwindled Every Year

      Pros

High pay. Great people to work with.

      Cons

I have worked for the company for 12 years now and each year we have seen the benefits dwindle. First the profit sharing went. Next the health insurance became more expensive each year while the coverage became less. Then there went the annual picnics. We now pay to get into Magic Mountain instead. After this cut we saw the annual Christmas parties go out the window as well as an option to work 1/2 day in lieu of the party. Now the employee appreciation week has been pared down to nearly nothing. Also no more employee gifts left on your chair during EAW. Working here means tons of overtime without a dime of compensation. Working until 10 pm without dinner offered is downright cheap and offensive.

Not the worst place in the world to work

      Pros

Great products and new product development pipeline, great people in my local group, mid-level management is getting better, and the benefits are decent, particularly the medical insurance. Currently there is a decent opportunity for overtime, which makes up for the lower hourly wage rate.

      Cons

Behind other similar companies in 401k match, training opportunities and career growth. No pension plan. No salary transparency. Poor annual raises, which don't keep pace with inflation + increased benefit costs. Their "merit increase" system guarantees that the wage increase difference between a high performer and a middling performer is about 1%, giving little to no incentive to work any harder than you have to and making the annual review process a giant waste of everyone's time.

      Pros

Great technology, thick wallet for pet projects, great people, decent benefits.

      Cons

Zero humanity or philosophical direction. The top imposes on the bottom a total enslavement to shareholder greed and satisfaction at all times. They face the huge task of integrating multiple acquisitions but rather than ramp up the head count and expertise to get the job done they fire people and ask people to do more with more stress and no additional resources. Constantly conflicting messages, the management structure has no single source of direction to guide everyone else so managers with pet projects never resolve the problems they create for other departments and no real progress is made.

      Pros

      Great people to work with.

      Cons

      - Lower pay compared to ALL other medical device companies. - Not only is upper management disorganized, there is no defined set criteria (mainly due to the new director). - Choose favorites without recognizing performance. - Allocation of money is horribly spent by increasing temporary positions with an intent to use and fire after contract duration. - Reporting criteria is archaic and is not abiding by modern CFR regulatory regulations. - Job is highly stressful with minimal pay. - Literally have to fake it to make it. I highly recommend finding another career opportunity elsewhere.

      Great culture, but unorganized

      Pros

SJM is a very technical company with great products; their CRM devices are the most programmable devices on the market. They have great people in management and in house.

      Cons

Across the industry, salaries and commissions are decreasing rapidly--especially for the TSS role. For SJM specifically, communication is poor between upper management and the field.

      Pros

Innovation. The technology is always advancing to keep the consumer and employees excited about the products. People. The company has placed great people in leadership to keep team members motivated.

      Cons

HR moves painfully slow when hiring someone. Convoluted bonus structure can make it difficult to understand and/reach your goal.

      Pros

Great people where successes can be achieved through teams.

      Cons

Projects are challenging where timelines are tight. Better planning upfront would allow a more successful execution of projects.

      Frequent layoffs

      Jul 12, 2014 -

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great people to work with. Cohesive teams, interesting products, the tangible feeling of making a difference in people's health and well-being.

      Cons

For the past four years, there have been regular layoffs due to never-ending re-orgs. Employees are in constant fear for their jobs. Upper management sees everyone as dispensible and is focused on the short-term goal of impressing share-holders with cost-cutting. Long term, quality will suffer.
