People are great -managers don't even know what we do.

    Nov 6, 2022 - Registered Nurse, BSN

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The people. The nurses and MDs really care about providing the best patient care they can. Great place to work if you are looking for a job to make money. Really the only peds in town

    Cons

St. Luke's is lucky its the only pediatrics in town because it's leadership stinks. Management aren't nurses and some don't have degrees. Executive management think "lean" leading means understaffing. On any shift in peds, there's only one nurse with more than a year of experience or isn't a traveler. Out-patient isn't better. Huge resistance to advancing nursing careers.

Great working environment, flexible schedule, remote work available.

    Cons

Benefits are low compared to other health systems, no room for job growth or upward mobility, the salary is low compared to other institutions, system-wide issues hinder job performance, no room for research study growth into new indications or areas of need.

Not a sustainable option for career growth

Nov 9, 2022 - Human Resources Specialist in Boise, ID
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The people/team were amazing. Fun environment for a while. Not a micro-management culture.

    Cons

Too much constant change where the goals/vision were unclear. The organization of the department and system as a whole shifted several times in a handful of years. Chasing awards became so much more important than employee wellbeing and workplace culture that long term employees no longer held value compared to another accolade that could be earned by the organization. No longer felt like a company you could believe in. COVID certainly played a huge role but even before that the lack of transparency in terms of motive and direction was difficult to feel comfortable with. The company has ZERO standard of progression/advancement in your career and there are incredibly limited opportunities to grow. The model of professional growth is to just do more work (the type of work required for the job description of the level you hope to advance to) for an unspecified amount of time (could be years and years) and hope for the best. No career planning or coaching. Even if you have been performing at a higher level, tick all boxes required of that higher level, have been exceeding expectations for a long time, asking for guidance on how to be promoted and compensated appropriately for the work you are producing you likely will be told vaguely "you just aren't quite there yet" with no details or advice. I am sure a lack of resources is a huge factor but still, this leaves many employees feeling helpless and stuck, with no autonomy or power over their own careers. They bank on the complacency of their employees, rather than focusing on how to enrich the experiences of their staff and truly retain and reward talent. So far it seems to be working but I truly hope they re-prioritize and implement changes soon as they are a pillar of the community and can be setting a better example as a key employer in this region.
