I worked at St. Luke's Health System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of wonderful staff. Lots of opportunities for Nurses wanting to work for a large system.

    Cons

Pay in Idaho remains low. They have become a big corporation and the healthcare is expensive, and the quality of care has decreased, despite good employees. When I left, there was a huge disconnect between upper management and staff.

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees.

I worked at St. Luke's Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with, impressive resources, patient care always came first. The system genuinely wants to improve care and provide a positive experience for both patients and employees.

    Cons

Mine was a new position at a small facility, so the heirarchy was incorrect. I was asked to take responsibility for issues that I had no power over. It seemed to be a common problem throughout the system.

    Advice to Management

Take more notice of the non-patient care departments. The hospitals wouldn't run without the support departments, and yet the employees in those departments generally feel underpaid, ignored, and over used compared to their clinical counterparts.

    Pros

Professional environment, great way to meet people, fun place outside of work. Looks very good on a resume and as a reference.

    Cons

Hard labor, horrible boss, no raises ever given before, no promotions to other departments for one year.

    Advice to Management

Let your employees grow! Especially within the business with no restrictions.

I worked at St. Luke's Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefit plan is very good, and they do small things to make you feel appreciated. But those are not very frequently done.

    Cons

They do not have very good employee support hen they come up for review. I was told that because I didn’t start conversations with other people in our sister office, I didn’t “play well with others”. If I questioning something I didn’t understand, I was being aggressive toward management. And the managers do not always follow through with what they are supposed to do.

    Advice to Management

If you want to improve, have second parties review each office and the managers. Really start to hold them accountable to the culture you are starting to build. Not all your offices hold that culture as a value.

    Pros

12 hour shifts, float pool supervisors are great

    Cons

large corporate feel, not employee friendly environment. Very profit driven for a not-for-profit. No incentive to stay long term. Management and middle management heavy

    Advice to Management

invest more in keeping quality employees that have experience
