    Advice to Management

I have been working at St. Luke's Health System (Less than a year)

    Pros

SLHS culture used to be amazing - there are still a lot of great staff and employees. Large employer in the community. Appreciate the vision and values - however both could be better applied to tangible daily life - the organization has experienced a ton of change. Executive and Site Admin leadership are mostly awesome.

    Cons

Competitive work environment, in some areas there is no accountability to act professionally or follow through, explosion of growth in staffing causing issues. There are to many cooks in the kitchen for areas that are not patient care focused. Middle management can be more concerned with moving up then then cultivating a good work environment or their employees.

    Advice to Management

At some point St Luke's will need take a step back to truly assess their non-patient care staffing needs. Please ensure middle management use iCARE when dealing with staff and others - carry out the vision. Truly assess the needs of the organization and simply the culture - get back to the basics. Leadership also needs to make solid decisions and then stand behind them to eliminate chaos or mistrust between staff.

Initially, the wages were not competitive. They have now created a system that is more consistent and competitive.

I have been working at St. Luke's Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Some staff are valued, mentored.

    Cons

Possibility of being sold to Intermountain Hospital System. Administrators, upper management oblivious to departmental needs. Physicians feel they were sold a deal that has not come to fruition. New computer system implementation a failure, especially in Health Information Department. Very poor management in this area. Good manager "let go". Remaining management incompetent. CFO questionable. Values in name only. Not consistently followed.

    Advice to Management

Work on mentoring all employees, not only a chosen few. Celebrate achievements.

I have been working at St. Luke's Health System (More than a year)

    Pros

People on the ground making things happen...

    Cons

... despite having to answer to several (sometimes a dozen) different people with some kind of stake in whatever project or system you're assigned to work on. No one person making a decision and making everyone else fall in line - instead it's a jumbled mess of acquiescence and compromise that means nothing is ever finalized and everything gets changed again anyways once someone sees it doesn't work for them the way they thought it would originally.

    Advice to Management

There is no reason to have as many directors in IT alone as there are service desk personnel, and if you think there is, you're A) micromanaging too many people too often because B) you're hiring the wrong people. Hire people you trust, then move out of their way.
