I worked at St. Luke's Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great environment with supportive coworkers.

    Cons

Initially, the wages were not competitive. They have now created a system that is more consistent and competitive.

    Advice to Management

The unit management that I was affiliated with was great.

I have been working at St. Luke's Health System part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good people wanting to do good by every patient.

    Cons

There is a manager for every manager and that manager has 2 other managers. It's a cluster of "leaders" who get to dictate what is important when none of them actually deal with patients. Leads to poor patient care.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of 80% of managers per department (I swear there is almost a manager for every 2 employees)...save money....and if you want to improve procedures and quality of care...ask the employees who actually care for the patients...not the ones who sit in an office all day separated from humanity.

I worked at St. Luke's Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful and talented clinical staff. Equally talented and committed clerical staff. Strong desire by patient-facing staff to do the right thing for every patient.

    Cons

Often felt that administrators had no idea what it was like to really deal with patients, resulting in a lot of procedures and requirements that seemingly served no real purpose.

    Advice to Management

I understand this is a business, but the constant PR blah-blah-blah about three (or was it 4?) goals and how we aim to be the best just became background noise. I would have been happy if we had more direct staff and fewer folks in PR/Marketing.

I have been working at St. Luke's Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Some staff are valued, mentored.

    Cons

Possibility of being sold to Intermountain Hospital System. Administrators, upper management oblivious to departmental needs. Physicians feel they were sold a deal that has not come to fruition. New computer system implementation a failure, especially in Health Information Department. Very poor management in this area. Good manager "let go". Remaining management incompetent. CFO questionable. Values in name only. Not consistently followed.

    Advice to Management

Work on mentoring all employees, not only a chosen few. Celebrate achievements.
