    Toxic Environment in the Lab

    Dec 25, 2015 - Medical Technologist

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great hospital environment, mostly a good relationship between departments. Good benefits, the new CEO seems nice, but haven't really seen much of her.

    Cons

The cons are all things about the Lab. I think the rest of the hospital is probably quite nice, but the lab is so horribly mismanaged that there is no way to enjoy working in a Best Workplace Hospital. Where do I start? Firstly, the evening and night shift will be only about 10% staffed soon, because everyone has put in their notice. They are all leaving because of terrible management on the off-shifts. This leaves no one to train incoming people correctly on those shifts, and it's causing a lot of disgruntled Day shift people because they are all working overtime to cover those shifts. Everyone who leaves is getting a substantial raise where they are going. St. Luke's has one of the lowest pay scales in the metro area. There are even a couple of people who are paying back loan forgiveness just to get out of there. The atmosphere is dismal. Everyone is unhappy, and Management has made it clear that they don't care. They expect everyone to keep picking up the overtime, but don't want to pay them fairly for it, not even paying shift differential to those people coming in early or staying late.
