I worked at St. Mary's College of California full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The campus is beautiful! It's a welcoming place to go every day. I had an amazing supervisor who was interested in my professional development.

    Cons

The only one I can think of is salary. Being a non-profit College, they tend to pay toward lower end . Be sure to negotiate salary. I was young and just took what was initially offered.

I have been working at St. Mary's College of California full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent Medical (though the Non-Kaiser option is very pricey), free tuition.

    Cons

Management is in denial about morale, and how things feel in the trenches. They speak support, but do not truly offer it. Under staffed. Overworked. Pay is terribly poor.

    Advice to Management

    Staff up, better compensation.

    Cons

None. Love it! The school is very organized.

    Pros

Great location, student body is intelligent and driven. Staff is knowledgeable and works hard to accomplish common goals.

    Cons

Lack of direction and focus on task at hand. Compensation is tight for the area and advancement is difficult. Very small staff.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your constituents rather than paid outsiders. Figure out way to reward staff who are going above and beyond.

    Pros

It's a beautiful campus nestled in the foothills of Moraga.

    Cons

They're going through downsizing, and I am abhorred at the favoritism put into the decision to lay off certain employees. Essentially, people who have spoken up against poor and illegal business practices were targeted to be laid off. Any talented staff they were able to recruit in the past decade are now jumping ship.

There are a lot of "lifers" who remain because they are taking advantage of the tuition free benefit for their kids, which obviously leaves the college with a very limited talent pool and lack of diversity.

Speaking of diversity - do not ignore the reviews where staff or faculty have felt discriminated against. It is a problem, mostly based out of ignorance and a lack of experience from people who have only worked in the affluent area of Moraga. This problem is more prevalent among faculty who are not trained in HR policy, but believe they can manage or lead people because they have done alright in a classroom. HR does little to step in to fix this problem amongst faculty because of the tenure they carry in senior management positions.

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership: Don't just listen, but truly HEAR what your staff is trying to tell you.

    Pros

Delightful cohorts of Lasallian Brothers, Faculty and Staff.
Helping Students at a small Higher Education institution
Gorgeous drive to a gorgeous campus tucked in the Moraga Hills
The days between Christmas and New Years given as a paid holiday, usually.

    Cons

No contract, can be laid-off at will.

    Advice to Management

Reassess what is not working with certain workflows where students needs are.

I have been working at St. Mary's College of California full-time

    Pros

Beautiful campus and environment. Most staff and faculty are pleasant people to work with.

    Cons

Compensation is way too low to sustain career employees. Tradition in the way of progress and communication is lacking. Too many silos and political agendas.

    Advice to Management

Don't ignore the signs. Employees are exhausted and it is creating an impossible climate to work in. Will not be able to sustain incoming workforce with these rates and the increasing cost of living.

I have been working at St. Mary's College of California full-time

    Pros

    - Not much...maybe the campus grounds

    Cons

    - IT Management penny pinches
    - IT Management leads by bullying or yelling
    - No advancement
    - Pay is VERY LOW!
    - Benefits aren't that great
    - Pay scales are out of alignment due to no turnover/long term employees that were
placed in position they were or are unqualified for
    - Long term employees just do things because "that's the way we've always do it" / no
       innovation or creativity is allowed
    - Processes still stuck in the paper age; example paper time sheets!
    - The faculty is unkind to staff and has no desire to hear input from us that could make
a real difference to the success of the college. This disconnect often causes a hostile
       environment.
    - Parking is terrible and they might start charging for parking (another pay decrease!)
    - Raise are very low (2%)

    Advice to Management

    - Get rid of the Bully in IT
