I worked at St. Petersburg General Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great when staff worked together to get the job done and close working relations developed because we knew we were all in this together. Got to see generations of family come to get care.

    Cons

Upper management acts like they realize what is going on, but do nothing to make the situation better. Obvious that "For Profit" is priority ahead of safe patient care and good patient care.Hearing people in the community talk about poor care and getting ignored by care persons at this hospital
    also worried me

    Advice to Management

Older employees have much to share and pass on to future employees, you don't have to terminate or do away with a position to get rid of people who have worked there a long time, you are messing with peoples lives just for your PROFITS! Also, there is a 24 hour staff present, don't always forget the shift that is less fortunate than your 9-5 job and have nice things planned for ALL!

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

small hospital, family like atmosphere, pay and retirement match

    Cons

no benefits 90 days and are expensive, orientation is short and insufficient. Work environmnetn is not ideal, esp for icu setting. nurse does everything (from secretary, tech, phlebotomy, iv therapy, transporter, getting own blood, etc.) and they triple assignments

    Advice to Management

Good nurses work at spgh, they need more help to ensure that they have the resources to meet all the standards of care. For example, you can't have 3 icu pt's and do everything by yourself, meds, orders, care, treatments, mouthcare and turning every 2 hours. A critical care tech could be cross trained to enter orders and the charge nurse could take an assignment possibly.
