I worked at St. Vincent's Health Services full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It was a very good learning environment, but it changed.

    Cons

They were interested in new grads rather than experienced workers.

    Advice to Management

Try to see individuals, rather than just the bottom line of how much experienced people cost

I worked at St. Vincent's Health Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, flexible work hours, laid back atmosphere. A lot of time to yourself and working completely independently. Room for growth.

    Cons

Job security, old and complicated systems and ways of completing tasks. Lots of turnover at the top. Not many modern incentives. Have to pay to park.

    Advice to Management

Bring in new employee incentives for a younger generation. Also, offer better and more thorough training as employees are left alone and there is not always help available.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at St. Vincent's Health Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The midlevel management in my particular department is stellar. In general, the staff around me are like-minded, helpful and competent, with the associated sense of irreverence that keeps the Emergency Department from sinking into insanity on stressful days.

    Cons

Owned by a very large Catholic health organization called Ascension Health. They are on a nickel and dime cost-saving push, but also on a mission to make all procedures and protocols consistent throughout their hospitals. They have a large portion of hospitals in the Midwest. Unfortunately a Northeastern hospital situated in a poor inner-city area takes some nuanced and unique changes to be successful.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your mid-level managers, make thoughtful changes with the feedback you receive and do not cave-in to corporate pressure. If you believe in the people under your, their suggestions can transform a work atmosphere, making it safe, successful, and most importantly, (from a corporate perspective) lucrative.
