I have been working at Stage Stores full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

9/80 work schedule, casual dress code all week, most managers are flexible with hours when it comes to doctor appointments, kids and school, etc. Extremely involved in the community - stage gives you a certain amount of additional "PTO" to go volunteer. Official department store of Houston Texans, we get to meet and greet with a player and cheerleaders every football season. Cafe on site. Employee discount on... merchandise. Nice, new office building with covered parking and ID badge access. Great starting salary for students fresh out of college.

    Cons

Politics can get in the way when it comes to vendor relationships and getting promotions, but that's going to happen at every company.

    Advice to Management

Some clearer guidelines as to what is expected to get promoted. Giving more associates laptops or tablets in order to work on the go.

    Pros

There are no pros to working here.

    Cons

Management has no idea what they are doing. HR will NEVER do anything to help you or handle unethical situations. This company does not pay their vendors on time.

    Advice to Management

    Get it together

I worked at Stage Stores full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots of young, energetic people (met a few that I will keep in touch with for a long time), good place to start your career (good training and support in the beginning, but that eventually drops off). Fair base salary.

    Cons

High stress environment (retail is a very volatile industry). Long hours (face time matters). No recognition or thanks for hard work. No bonuses or incentives for anyone below the Buyer/Planner level. Can be negative atmosphere and low moral at times (lots of gossip and rumor mill).

    Advice to Management

Very little awareness of what goes on in the merchandising environment within the building. Management tends to stay behind closed doors more than they come out and interact with the teams. HR is fairly unprofessional and unequipped to deal with the level of stress that buying and planning teams are under. Retail is naturally a stressful industry, it would be helpful if there was a great HR and Employee Relations... team to support everyone.
