I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good experience and exposure. Good opportunity to work with the best in the industry.

    Cons

The NY office culture is very competitive, so much so that you don't have a nice feeling working there. Everyone is very territorial and would gladly step on you to get on top.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the reference culture and assess candidates based on their experience and caliber.

    Pros

Lax work schedule. Most people out the door at 5pm, no one in on weekends.

    Cons

    Below market compensation. Pitiful bonus.

Small enough that stupid people get promoted on a regular basis.

I worked at Standard Chartered Bank full-time

    Pros

Location of the actual building in NYC, which is off Bryant Park. This is the only redeeming quality of the New York office.

    Cons

Management still needs to get turned over. The same dinosaurs that have been there for years continue to run the joint with a steady decreasing YoY revenue.

    Pros

    - International mobility and travel.
    - Helpful employees

    Cons

    - Employees do not believe in organisation or product. Always making fun of how horrible it is. I do not understand why they do not leave.
    - Very average employees. Organisation goes down to the level of the lowest common denominator. Why should the ambitious employees bother putting in any effort, if everything is going to stall because of poor processes and incompetent employees?
    - Senior management totally out of touch with reality.
    - Technology is terrible. Very confusing processes - people just make it up as they go along. Often work becomes compensating for poor technology and processes.
    - Extremely bloated organisation. Too many cooks to spoil the broth. Everyone asks for status updates - creates duplication of communication.

    Advice to Management

Trim the fat in management and senior management, for god's sake. We all hope Bill Winters is a clairvoyant man.
