    Pros

It was a good foot in the door. I was able to learn a lot and management was open to helping me with my career goals.

    Cons

The job could be very tedious and robotic. There is a daily deadline to get all payments which could be stressful.

I worked at Standard Chartered Bank (Less than a year)

    Pros

the coworkers are nice and talented. The bank has really collaborative team and people would like to help each other. Good for every student who wants to gain professional experience.

    Cons

The system, especially the approval process is too complicated. It is good for senior managers to control the risk but hard for the staff to deliver what the clients want on time.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes the managers are too concern about every tiny risk and are micromanaging every working aspect. It is better to trust the subordinates and to authorize them to a greater extent. This will definitely cheer the staff up.

I worked at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I was paid fairly, bonuses were fair, decent opportunities for learning and growth. I had really good work-life balance, although some colleagues did not. I was allowed and expected to control my own balance. As long as the work got done, I had a great deal of freedom. That was nice. Standard Chartered is in a lot of very interesting and challenging markets. It was never boring.

    Cons

Execution is a challenge. Systems are antiquated and generally updated in a hodge-podge manner. Standard Chartered Bank acutally operates as a federation of local banks and that needs to change desperately. "The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing." Way too many layers of management - though I think that is starting to change finally.

    Advice to Management

Become one bank in more than just voice. Really become one bank - break down and destroy the country silos - it is possible. Standard Chartered is top-heavy with sales associates/managers. There aren't enough support people to cater to all the amazing effort from the sales staff, resulting in delayed on-boardings, issue resolution, and overall customer support. That chases customers away and hammers customer service ratings. Invest in infrastructure for a while - not the sales function.
