I worked at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The level of diversity is incredible. I have never worked for a more exciting environment with wonderful opportunities to learn from colleagues from across the globe.

    Cons

The company doesn't do well on retaining women, and they insist on promoting either white or Indian males. There is also a lot of cronyism.

    Advice to Management

Look internally for talent, and stop thinking that only Indian men have the answers to the issues you are facing.

    Pros

Good experience and exposure. Good opportunity to work with the best in the industry.

    Cons

The NY office culture is very competitive, so much so that you don't have a nice feeling working there. Everyone is very territorial and would gladly step on you to get on top.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the reference culture and assess candidates based on their experience and caliber.

    Pros

Great co-workers, good life and work balance, based on daily routine.

    Cons

Not enough room for personal growth.

    Advice to Management

Try to make office politics more easily to pick up

    Pros

Team was warm and welcoming - had interest in getting to know me and how they could help me during my internship - team seemed to have a lot of pride working there.

    Cons

Typical intern work, did not do anything of real significance.

    Advice to Management

    Give interns more important tasks

I worked at Standard Chartered Bank full-time

    Pros

One of the best places I ever worked for. Great people, great environment, great career path, they support great causes especially seeing is believing..

    Cons

Sometimes it can get very busy and long hours are required. However, the work life balance can easily be maintned if time is well managed.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, the bank is shining again under the wings of Bill Winters. Keep the focus on your employees as they have proven to be the biggest asset of this bank.

I worked at Standard Chartered Bank (More than a year)

    Pros

The tech outpost in SF was great under the previous leadership. But shakeups at the bank led to shakeups there, and it all changed. Now, they're focused on Asia, and putting more into the Singapore outpost.

    Cons

The new manager was incredibly rude and unprofessional towards the employees--it was a shocking display. I left in disgust at that point.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with basic decency and respect. It goes a long way.

I worked at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company was good 5 years ago, but has since declined.

    Cons

Poor leadership team in the Americas region; Toxic culture/environment/management; SCB does NOT promote talent, but rather promotes those individuals who feed into the leadership politics. If you do your job, you can expect to stay status quo. If you do your job REALLY well, you def will never leave your current role; the talk about Culture and Values is done because "they need to do it". There are no values with SCB.

    Advice to Management

Remove the remaining leadership team, as those that haven't left on their own, know they wouldn't be able to find another similar role that puts up with their nonsense
