I have been working at Standish full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are this companies greatest asset. Very few egos here. Work life balance is decent. Open door policy all around.

    Cons

Outdated technology in certain areas of the company. Hard to get technology projects moving. Office areas could use some updating.

    Advice to Management

Continue to put your employees first. Work life balance goes a LONG way in keeping employees engaged.

I have been working at Standish full-time

    Pros

Flat structure, certainly great opportunities to work your way up if you work hard. Also, work/life balance is the best I've seen at a finance firm.

    Cons

Being a subsidiary of a bank, the firm often cuts corners on spending in several areas, which in the end create unnecessary hassles for the investment teams. IT projects are consistently delayed because of tech team turnover.

    Advice to Management

Just as much for BNY than Standish, but the company should support the back office groups more to maintain and encourage the inflow of new talent.

-They treat everyone like they are all employees

    Cons

-Sometimes there is more downtime than one can take.
-Some of the computer programs make it hard to get work done.

    Advice to Management

-The only piece of advice is to continue to ensure that your interns are getting the most out of their experience.

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Smart people, interesting work, decent culture. The firm is finally growing after a number of tough years after the merger. However, there is a strong emphasis to cultivate employees so they can move up the portfolio management ladder.

    Cons

The pay isn't competitive with other investment managers in town. It's difficult for the them to hire and retain top talent.
