I have been working at Stanford Children's Health part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, public transportation, nice co-workers, interdisciplinary work style, team oriented, patient satisfaction is priority, measured outcomes, convenient location near mall, near CalTrain, shuttles for parking and train station users, variety of places to eat/coffee, great health programs, quality clinicians, providers truly care about patients, bend over backwards to help patients, executives provide lots of community opportunities, expanding in size, buildings, and capacity. Great teachers to interns/students.

    Cons

Very busy clinics, patients are more complex but the resources to be more efficient/effective/meet high quality standards are limited: staff, time, long patient wait list, very administrative heavy. Limited program flexibility (no home visiting programs, or training programs for nurse practitioners/clinical nurse specialists to take on more roles). Very difficult organization to get into, you pretty much have to know someone or trained here as a student.

    Advice to Management

Hire more assistant managers, nurses, and administrative staff. Recruit more extra-help/per diem/relief positions.

    Pros

Warm, friendly staff; everyone really embraces customer care as the first priority, which is a beautiful thing to see in action.

    Cons

Hard to implement changes within such a complex & hierarchical structure, although this is typical of all hospitals.

    Advice to Management

If I had to give one piece of advice to the management at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, I would tell them to embrace and encourage change to help avoid stagnation.

I worked at Stanford Children's Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed working with the families and patients. My co-workers were fantastic as was the management staff.

    Cons

Had a difficult time adjusting to me medical need (as discovered in fall of 2014) providing me with a headset for telephone use.

    Advice to Management

Work to see individual needs of members on each team -- and make accommodations for them as necessary.

    Pros

Staff is very friendly and supportive. I always hear nurses asking each other if they're ok or need help. They even ask me! Management recognizes the staff often. LPCH is a great place to work!

    Cons

The only downside is when you work at other units off site, it is more challenging to do the job because even though you're offsite materials still come from the main campus and the delay in receiving things can be 2 hours.
