I have been working at Stanford University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You can work with the smartest PIs and peer graduate student and postdocs. The research going on is very interesting.

    Cons

When you see other fresh masters student in CS earns 2-3 times than you do, I think it is hard for anyone to ignore it. Moreover, the cost of living in the bay area is very hgih.

    Advice to Management

It is sad that Stanford is very rich (money to buy computer clusters and to perform experiments), but the current system doesn't allow it to share that fortune to subside its employees living in the bay area. But nothing can be changed, and that is the reality for academia.

I have been working at Stanford University full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Work with the best and brightest colleagues and mentors, incomparable access to resources and collaborators, surrounded by passionate people who care deeply about their work.

    Cons

The life of a postdoc is challenging anywhere - long hours for low pay, and the bottom of the academic totem pole. Cost of living in the Bay area for a postdoc is almost impossible.
