I have been working at Stantec full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pretty good benefits Easy going atmosphere Friendly employees and managers Temporary travel or permanent transfer to other offices is possible Bureaucracy is minimal as each office is basically an independent firm.

    Cons

Despite being a large company, there is a surprising amount of instability because Stantec is essentially a large number of small consulting firms that occasionally share workers, resources, and policies. This may stem from Stantec growing almost exclusively by purchasing smaller firms. My salary was low. Promises are often made with little follow up.

    Advice to Management

Communication between managers and employees is decent, but follow up on this communication is poor. The company is very poorly integrated, and each office is an island. Workers are shared between offices, but the business practices are often very different and resources and information are not consistent between offices.

I worked at Stantec full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Not many pros to mention. Flexible hours were about the only one. All the pros were taken away when Stantec bought the company.

    Cons

Stantec has a very proficient way of lowering moral to new lows and then taking them even lower. The company is completely guided by profit numbers. The people who get promoted to department managers are those that have the quality of treating others like dirt. Hourly employees were "advised" to work overtime and not show it on their timecards. Stantec buys companies, tears them apart, and many good people will lose their jobs because their salaries are too high.

I have been working at Stantec for more than a year

    Pros

Lots of work, variety of work, able to choose your work. Provides you with all the tools you need to do your job.

    Cons

Would like to be able to choose flexible work hours and work locations. IT dept could be faster in assisting with computer problems

    Advice to Management

More frequent reviews, more detailed in employee metrics and clearly defined career goals should be suggested to the employee

I worked at Stantec full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Big company, good benefits (wellness, company stocks etc), good office environment in downtown Toronto Office (a LEED CS Platinum). People are polite.

    Cons

Poor & loose project management, no project coordination. No mandatory project procedure to follow. Mistakes happens inside and outside due to lack of communication and coordination. Maybe a consequence of acquiring small firms into Stantec and lack of discipline.

    Generally good people. Good benefits

    Cons

Only an Engineer has any hope of advancement, whether they deserve it or not. Technologists are third class citizens.
