I worked at Stantec full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They will give you a job in some new merger or acquistion. You will be bought in to fix Stantec problems then got rid of. They also furlough people to get out of paying severence.

    Cons

They mislead staff and new hires and get rid of people once a problem is fixed. No loyalty..expensive benefits. No job security. They don't value staff in any department and many departments are low paid . The senior mangers who have bene there for a long long time like in RIhcmond VA, are just rude, non caring people who dont care baout staff. .Nicknamed " the "body shop" in the business.Health funds disappear, pay goes missing.HR ignores problem.Stantec is a Mergers and Acquisitions compnay wiht bad long time senor management. so expect a fair amount of chaos as the acquire, slice and dice and re-purpose the assets they acquire. They also furlough people to get out of paying severence.

    Advice to Management

Pay my husband the severence due.You horrible people who have made life very very difficult.he did nothing but good work for you.Chuck in RIchmond you are appalling.

I worked at Stantec full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company offers good work life balance and good overall benefits.

    Cons

The company culture is non-existent. People are treated differently and management is impersonal. The company is very disorganized from all the acquisition activities and lacks transparency with employees.

    Advice to Management

Get back to the basics and be honest with employees as they are your greatest asset. Management should revisit their company values.

I have been working at Stantec full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people are good. The job is meh at best.

    Cons

My experience comes from the operations side, and I can tell you we were promised BIG THINGS when our company was acquired. We were even promised large roles with Stantec and were told that the company does this often, but that each of the company's respective practices would be reviewed closely and the best policies and programs would be selected. This did not happen. As time rolls on, it's clear that this was never their intention and that things would slowly shift to Stantec's way of doing business. It is sad for those of us who were excited to see new and improved changes. It is demoralizing for everyone when promises are made and fall-through (habitually). There is clearly no leadership, or when the only instruction that is given is to leave things the same. It seems no one wants to get in muck to actually determine best practices and provide guidance. Those in leadership that are supporting changes and progress are eventually shut down by the politics played. I honestly don't know how they will keep good people around much longer. It's disheartening. This company has great potential, but until significant changes are made there is very little hope for that.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the office politics and make some real and effective changes to the organization. Show good-faith to your employees that you care about the business and about their futures. Do what you say and say what you do!

I worked at Stantec full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Virtual work environment....allowing employees and management to work where ever.
Decent pay, but came from an acquisition so no change so far...

    Cons

Collaborative management style created a decision bottleneck amongst senior leaders.
I was from one of their many acquisitions and as mentioned in other reviews, the company buys your company....doesn't do anything right away from an org standpoint and then attrition starts to set in and morale goes bad. There is a contracts and compliance group at Stantec that reports through operations that is unprofessional and only knows a portion of what they are doing. When anybody brings up good points with management, that would make them take action on major concerns, they blow if off as not being a concern because they see that part of the business not contributing large enough revenue volume to warrant risk or they make it seem like it's a misinterpretation on the employee's part so they don't have to address the issue. Because so many acquisitions have occurred of smaller businesses they really have managers that are not qualified to be VP's or Senior VP's but are placed into those roles because those are the positions they were in at their 30 person company that was acquired.

    Advice to Management

Start really reviewing those senior leaders to ensure they can perform, make the tough decisions or have the tough conversations to really affect changes and move the company in a more positive direction.

I have been working at Stantec (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of growth opportunity at firm. New initiatives and local, regional, and national groups provide opportunity to contribute at a variety of scales. Great teams across many disciplines. Holiday shut down is one of many great perks.

    Cons

Compensation or changes in compensation take too long to get caught up to industry standards. Perks and workplace environment help this though and outweigh the gap to a degree.

    Advice to Management

Pay the talent industry standard or better to keep them, and encourage those star people to bring in the right new talent when teams are growing.

Emplyloymrnt benefits non existent as so expensive.Executive Management doesn't act on wage iszues. Thersles zero work culture, retreats, conferences just be thankful if your team and immediate management are decent.

    I worked at Stantec full-time

    Pros

I honestly can't think of a pro. All this company does is buy out small companies and then drive away good employees.

    Cons

See above. Currently the Houston office has become a place where managers are forcing out good employees and bringing in their old buddies. If they are not careful this office will fall apart.

    Advice to Management

Hard to give advice if they don't listen.

I have been working at Stantec full-time

    Pros

Free coffee and the toilet paper roll is always full in the bathroom

    Cons

Absolutely horrible. They have the outward face of being nice and professional...that's just the bait. Once you see how terribly dysfunctional, mean, petty, protecting their turf at the company expense and just plain bad...you will run for the hills. Don't bother having a conversation with HR if you have a problem, they are useless...worse than useless as your problem will get shared with the person/leader that you have the issue with. They did have two good HR leaders but ran them off as they really are not interested in the employees issues or feelings, only looking good themselves. Speaking of looking...take a look at the leadership...62 pictures, 58 men, only 4 women and not one black face among them. This tells you every thing you need to know about the culture and ethics of Stantec.

    Advice to Management

None...you are too arrogant to listen.

I worked at Stantec full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Some good projects, benefits ok.......

    Cons

I dont even know where to start. Run by former government employees (retirees) that have brought the same mindset. Management that does not know how to actually perform the work but yet tries to manage the work. Very cliquish environment, tons of backstabbing, misinformation, gossiping, misleading employees, terrible career track model. Project managers have never actually performed the work that they are managing, this becomes a big problem. Huge employee turnover of experienced employees. While I was there in the last two years around ten experienced key employees left or got fired because of management issues. In the last ten years 5 principals were turned over. Old school, crisis style management. You will get dumbed down, and get chewed out! Hostile environment. They will use you up and throw you out. Unbelievable, Worst company I have ever worked for. I'll stop here.........you decide.............

    Advice to Management

Learn whats involved in doing the work before you try to manage the work.
