Large Company with Small Company Connections

      Pros

Chases large projects across the world. Room to grow and change disciplines. With size, you can specialize much more than other firms. Most management is very involved and brings value to projects. Flexible work schedules & work from home. Work/Life balance is excellent. Staff seems to really enjoy their work.

      Cons

Have to fight for every penny of your wage. (get offers from competitors) Safety forms get to be extremely daunting and redundant. The corporate structure can seem a bit difficult to work with at times. Some offices struggle to work outside of their regions. Company events lack across the region.

Unsustainable Management Practices and Profit Driven Culture

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Stantec provides ample opportunities to work on complex, challenging, and mentally engaging projects. Depending on the discipline, you can work with world class experts with many years of experience in the industry, creating a great learning environment. They also have a very impressive focus on safety.

      Cons

The culture at Stantec has deteriorated over the last few years to become a truly dismal work environment. Upper management decisions tend to focus completely on growth and profit, as expected for any business, but without any balance towards employee well-being or work/life balance. Salaries are on the low end of the bell curve for many disciplines. There is also a suffocating amount of training, corporate branding, and overall useless content created by the company that detrimentally effect the daily work life. Finally, be prepared to brown-nose middle management. Good work products and going at lengths to stay billable are not enough, if you're not working 50+ hours a week (hourly or salaried) and rubbing shoulders with higher ups, you are regarded as a second-class employee.

Project managers are truly terrible and have no regard for your health or safety

      Pros

I cannot think of any for this company.

      Cons

Projects managers give you less than 24 hours to complete large projects.Have absolutely no regard to work life balance. Run you into the ground. Guilt trip you into thinking you should be working 14 hours a day. Expectations are too high for people with lower pay grades and less experience. Expect you to work for free. Do not want pay you to do necessary training. Benefits keep decreasing. Expect you to work holidays and weekends.
