I have been working at Staples part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The workplace culture is interesting. You meet people with a vast variety of skills worth learning.

    Cons

It is stressful work. Customers expect you to be a trained graphic artist or know everything about their device. And since not every store follows the same rules and procedures customers get offended when you tell them their job costs X amount or that it is not something was supposed to do.

    Advice to Management

please help copy center. stick to our 1 100 1000 rule and don't lead customers on about unrealistic expectations.

I worked at Staples full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable company... lots of overtime hours (especially in the Atlanta FC)... health benefits offered

    Cons

Last minute overtime called. Physical as in lifting, pushing in excess of 30 lbs throughout the shift... Benefits are available but not very good when it its time to co-pay.

    Advice to Management

Please consider being upfront with (potential) employees about mandatory overtime whenever needed.

I worked at Staples full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are literally no pros to this company.

    Cons

Every position is underpaid, little to no training, very limited advancement opportunities. The company is so focused on switching everything to online sales that store support has taken a huge hit. Never enough labor hours for store coverage. Upper management is more than happy to let someone underneath them on the chain take them blame for failures. Lots of finger pointing and VERY MUCH and old boys club. Unrealistic sales/attachment/rewards enrollment goals.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to switch your focus to online sales, readjust your in-store goals. Allocate labor based on store traffic as opposed to solely going off projections. Pay people what they are worth instead of going for cheap labor. You get what you pay for.

I worked at Staples part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is now high compensation per hour. There is also the ability to take on new opportunities and gain experience in different aspects of the company, like technology, sales, and copy and print.

    Cons

There is a lack of upward mobility and a lack of flexibility from management. I worked at two different locations, and within both, management relies on their employees to learn new responsibilities without giving them the opportunity to move into higher roles.
