I worked at Staples part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours that can work with your schedule. Employees get a small discount on items. Meetings had good food for everyone.

    Cons

Low pay for the work you have to do. Customers could be rude to you. Management took advantage of hard workers, always had short staff.

    Advice to Management

Treat the employees with respect. People stay longer if you treat them well.

I worked at Staples part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good work-life balance
    - Management is better at some locations than others
    - Co-workers are generally easy to work with

    Cons

    - Inefficient management structure
    - Too may responsibilities to too few employees
    - Very few employee incentives to sell items
    - Difficult to justify pricing

    Advice to Management

Please know that a professional demeanor does not simply mean maintaining a serious and commanding presence; it also entails caring for employees and ensuring that work is not a chore. Employees are more likely to be conducive to sales if they feel like they are working for an organization that actually cares about their lives.

I have been working at Staples part-time

    Pros

In mid-July through Mid August, hours are basically unlimited. Overall easy job

    Cons

Way to many items to try and sell. Credit cards, Rewards, Pen of the Month, Liquid Armor, Whoosh, and Square Trade plans are are all expected to be sold daily. There's also no incentive to sell them besides "Staples Bucks" which can be used to buy snacks.

    Advice to Management

If you want employees to sell all these products, provide better incentives instead of snacks.

I have been working at Staples part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible scheduling of work hours.
Problem solving of customer needs can be self rewarding.
Can learn basics quickly. . .

    Cons

Low pay for amount of workload.
High stress due to performance demands from company.
Lack of recognition from both management and company.
Part time benefits are bad and seemingly only offered to prevent associates from getting federal aid.
    Toxic/hostile work environment.
IT never fixes anything and is the standard big business India IT.

    Advice to Management

Shift off of a people as a commodity mentality where workers are treated as second class. When an associate brings up an issue I feel like it is not taken seriously, IT complains about having issues submitted and then management says not to put in tickets then nothing gets fixed. Managers rarely write people up for safety violations, when brought up they only talk to the person and then the person continues with violating OHSA safety regulations again and again.

Give more words of encouragement to people. Seems that too often that stress from overhead is taken out on associates too much.

I enjoy working but I often feel that when others are truly at fault I seem to get talked too when I really have done nothing wrong. I literally broke down in tears one day because of the lack of understanding on how I feel and how I am not the source of all the issues all the time. Instead of getting on me why not tell the person who literally takes 10+ minutes to check one person out and then backs up the entire line because he cant go faster and forces people from other departments to bail him out when we are supposed to be in our departments making the store money and helping our own customers.

All we hear in our ears is "did you get the plan?" or "offer them a more account" (credit card), etc. This really has started big time in 2017 and I am at the point of not caring as I get nothing from it and I am not gonna force a credit card on someone just so management looks good.
