I worked at Staples full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Atmosphere and people are great. A lot of fun at times. Room for advancement. Flexible hours. Fair vacation time. Some managers do truly care about the employees. If you stay positive and do your job you will be rewarded in your career.

    Cons

Company is always changing. You worry about your position going away. You worry about your commission changing and you not being paid. Could be more competitive with salary. Health insurance is terribly priced. Nothing is ever guaranteed.

    Advice to Management

People who are always negative need to be spoken too. Constant complaining hurts everyone on the salesfloor. Don't be just a manager and be a leader. Corporate Higher ups should be hired internally and not a person who doesn't understand the job and culture. Let your managers lead, stop holding them back.

I have been working at Staples (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible Hours, lots of great people, employee discount, minimum compensation is $9.00/h

    Cons

Stress, tons of pressure and verbal abuse from upper management (seriously), unreasonable sales goals, high tendency to carry the full workload of others.

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to associates and keyholders. We cannot force customers to buy things that they do not want (ex. Liquid Armour), regardless of sales experience and competency. Some sales metrics must be reached by buying products out of pocket, in fear of losing job.

Easy job. Works with your schedule. Some days were pretty lax. Busiest was during back to school.

    Cons

Poor management due to changing five times. No incentives except for a piece of paper saying employee of the month and a pat on the back.
