I worked at Staples part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Wide Selection of Product Management
    -50% off Square Trade
-Fun Work Environment for the most part
    -Very friendly coworkers
-Great place to hone your tech skills if you love it.
-Hands on experience with handling specific technology products such as Printers, Computers and other small devices such as Headphones, Chargers and even phones.
    -Enjoyable first 5 - 7 months.

    Cons

-10% Employee Discount, calculating that with the 7% Sales tax, you only get 3% off.
-Constantly Fluctuating Management, 6 managers in 7 months.
-Constant Hour Cuts, can go weeks without hours, without any warning
    -Extremely pushy management
-Very Rude Customers, only a small handful are nice
-Excessive and unrealistic workload. Tends to give 1 employee a huge amount of work while the others just go about their business.
-Management makes excuses when told issues, not wanting to take responsibility or solve issues.
-Constantly understaffed, most days there's only 1 person in each department, alot of the time there's only 2 employees running the huge store, with the manager not helping at all.
-Management tends to not care about employee situations. If you cannot make it due to extreme weather, they tend to not care. Only feasible excuse seems to be death in the family with current management.
-25c payraise after 1 year of working there.
-No promotional opportunities after a year and a half of working there as 1 of the top sellers.
-Entire employee staff constantly threatened of losing their job if they do not do specific tasks, even if they already were doing said task.
-Unrealistic Daily Sales Goals. Completely unfeasible. Management tends to take over all big sales, which leaves almost none for the rest of the employees, which makes it even more unrealistic.
-Management very frequently rushing employees to finish tasks, giving them small and unrealistic time frames to complete said tasks.
-Management tends to "Forget" about your schedule, constantly asking you to resubmit it to them, then doesn't even follow or consider it. Constantly conflicting with your schedule, even school.

    Advice to Management

    -Listen to your employees
-Be more lenient on them and loosen up. You stress out the whole store constantly. -Lessen the workload on your employees, divide it with other employees.
-Review your scheduling, and get more employees in each day. You cannot have 1 associate per department running such a huge store. Its too stressful.
-Help out associates with their work if they are struggling, don't just sit there and watch.
-Be more considerate of employees situations.

I have been working at Staples full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good growth opportunity for development if you are able to work on projects reporting to the right people. Learning is promoted. Development is encouraged. Challenged to grow. Great supporting peers. I believe that CEO Shira G. is maneuvering and guiding the company in a competitive direction and embracing new technology ans well as challenging her team to perform in accordance to her vision, which appears to be bright. Casual dress in a business environment. Very close to being a great place to work.

    Cons

Leadership is not as transparent as they should be; finding things out in the news instead of internally first. Not enough growth to promote within; you must move to other departments and groups to gain essential growth. Operation leadership is not in alignment across the network in Contract; glaring inconsistencies hurt the trust value. The TM role is becoming not so clearly defined; manager, supervisor, coach, trainer, counselor, HR Generalist, project coordinator...too many hats to wear in a finite amount of time; drawing away from the folks you need to support.

    Advice to Management

Consistency, communication and genuineness "in" and "from" leadership are important, even in an ever changing environment.

I have been working at Staples full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Majority of the people are nice to work with. People have been friendly and helpful. They need to do more social networking for associates to meet one another since it is such a large organization.

    Cons

No opportunity for growth. Out of pocket health insurance costs for the associate are too high. Costs continue to rise every year.

    Advice to Management

Grading for jobs needs a major overhaul. All associates should receive a bonus if contributing to the success of the business not just certain levels - sends the wrong message.

I worked at Staples part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I really like my coworkers and managers that I worked with. They were pretty laidback and casual. It was also fun to see people's projects and help print them out. Also, they are pretty flexible with scheduling work hours, so this definitely a plus for students.

    Cons

Most of the time I was there, they kept scheduling 1 associate hence, it was hard to print customers' orders in hectic hours. There would almost always be a long line of people waiting impatiently on the side especially during the weekends (when we're most busy). There was also one computer that we could only printout digital files from, so even if there were 2 associates were working, we would have to wait for the other associate to finish helping his/her customer. Also, they should really update their software a bit since I was using Adobe Elements and Microsoft Publisher to read/print out some people's files.

    Advice to Management

Make sure to train your associates well enough. Makes sure to have every associate know where all the items in the store is cause customers constantly ask for help and want immediate answers.
