I have been working at Staples full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Caring and easy to relate to managers and good benefits, including lots of time off, overtime is offered on a regular basis

    Cons

The pay is not very good compared to other companies and you are forced to work some holidays

    Advice to Management

pay employees what they are worth and get rid of employees who don't work hard, spending their time on the internet when they should be working

I worked at Staples full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good team of people. Lots of long term associates.

    Cons

Computer system is pretty shaky. Old Real problem is margin. With computer, tablets, and overall tech sales in the toilet Staples is not really making sales because of on line. Can't really make it on pencils. Upper management is bailing.

    Advice to Management

Develop new lines to sell. Not just a new color of plastic tote.

I worked at Staples part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Experience with customers solving problems and providing technical help.
Witness to the turmoil in Retail consumer electronics adapting to internet shopping trends. Experience with a structured selling methodology.

    Cons

Change from original job definition into a less skilled position with more automated tasks and services. Few opportunities to grow skill set and the level of expectation are unrealistic with many factors beyond your control.

I worked at Staples (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You will get experience in multiple job fields working at a staples store like it or not, if you stay with the company you will be told to wear many hats for a low wage and short hours.

    Cons

Toxic work environment, management comes and goes, and are disrespectful to employees. sure some are good but some are not, and even if you report them to corporate they keep their jobs. Management is shady sneaking warranties/protection plans onto sales just to reach numbers. Customers beware and look at your receipt, there is no reason you need to buy a warranty you did not agree too!!

    Advice to Management

When a person comes in for a job make sure you tell them that they are also going to be working in every other job position! Dont hire someone for one position, and then have them clean bathrooms, being a cashier, a computer technician, counting the cash office, being security, customer service, and inventory at the same time for the same pay!! Horrible company!!

I have been working at Staples part-time

    Pros

    Easy entry job
Small store makes it simplified to do tasks

    Cons

The corporate's decisions are ultimately screwing over the good of the store. Our store hardly has any employees aside from the bare minimum to work due to corporate not giving us enough hours.
They ask for A LOT of numbers, more than other retail companies do.

    Pros

Work life balance, flexible working schedule, friendly colleagues, plenty of social networking opportunities.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive for roles in analytics. Upper management does not seem to be valuing new ideas and changes. Hard to learn new things.

    Advice to Management

Need competitive pay to recruit talented people

I have been working at Staples full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with. Great benefits especially with time off. Once you reach a year your vacation time is doubled in addition to float and sick time.

    Cons

Trying to fix what was not broken. Change commission plan every year to make sure employees make less but attempt to spin it so it looks good on paper. However top commission pay is unachievable. This goes for all positions that receive commission.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to change what is not broken.
