Starcom has flexible schedules and a casual work environment and provides excellent benefits

    Advice to Management

Employee evaluations and growth opportunities should be a priority within the finance department.

    Pros

Ally business is growing and expanding. Other teams in the office seem happier. The company offers flexible working arrangements so make sure you are on the right team!

    Cons

Ally suffers from high turnover because of poor leadership and high demands. Personal life is a thing of the past. Draining environment and no one is happy. The team often works past 9pm in the office. The office is drab and in dire need of updating. Director is always stressed and has yelled at people on occasion.

    Advice to Management

Change is needed to keep talented people. Work on improving culture and step up leadership skills and/or bring in good leaders.

I worked at Starcom MediaVest full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Ability to operate autonomously on projects with little micro-management. Ability to work across departments and influence operations. Free booze. They will pump you full of booze when morale hits a low point. So usually lots of booze around.

    Cons

Very little formal structure or support from superiors. Re-doing work based on financial incentives provided to your superiors from "preferred" partners. Often at the detriment of your clients. You will then be forced to sell through inferior products to your clients (i.e. you will lie to them) in order for the agency to receive 'kick-backs' discussed behind closed doors. Incentives focused on new business causes high client turn-over in competitive categories. This can be beneficial to upper management but it is exhausting for those working day-to-day on the business. Upper management will take credit for your work after providing little to no input or support. If vendors offer to take you out or provide tickets to an event, keep it to yourself. Upper management will try to take it for themselves. You will be dramatically overworked and will constantly be understaffed. Employees have a tendency to get stuck at this agency for long periods of time. Job security seems like a good thing, but DO NOT get stuck here. It will set back your career and quite possibly drive you mad.

Pay is low. A lateral move to another agency easily netted me a 40% pay increase. Benefits are good but expensive.

    Advice to Management

Management is stale and out of touch. A complete overhaul needs to happen if this place wants to stay competitive in an ever-changing marketplace. Employees should be treated with respect and not constantly pushed to the edge of what they can handle.
