I worked at Stark Carpet (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I worked with some nice people.

    Cons

I worked for Stark Carpet for over 20 years. They threw me out into the street . On my "exit interview", I asked the HR guy if he liked his job. He had the nerve to tell me he loved it. Then he told me to leave and "say goodbye to nobody-we will walk you to the door!" I was not the only one they threw out like trash.

    Advice to Management

Treat your loyal employees like humans, not trash.

I worked at Stark Carpet full-time

    Pros

Got paid weekly, no other pros

    Cons

Literally everything. Paid time off (sick and vacation) VERY minimal. Little to no training. Management doesn't care about employees and their concerns.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff and at least pretend to care about their needs. Happy employees equals results.

I have been working at Stark Carpet full-time

    Pros

I truly like all the managers here. How rare is that?
Coming from a former job with feral management, I appreciate this immensely.
The VP of Operations is absolutely the best.
The Stark Calhoun operation (Prestige Mills) is a wonderful place to work, where management truly wants each employee to succeed.

    Cons

I had hoped the company would contribute to the retirement plan, but at least paid time-off is generous.

    Advice to Management

Better communication between NY and Calhoun.
    More feedback/less panic on tasks.

I worked at Stark Carpet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Stark Carpet was a fantastic company to work for. They truly lead the industry in innovation and design with their quality carpet. Coming from an interior design background prior to working for Stark, I recommended Stark to all of my design clients when they wanted a product that would last. I was working out of the Syosset location but the corporation has showrooms across the country that do a great job of catering to their clients. Our Syosset location added tremendously to my positive experience with the company. The showroom manager and other employees were a pleasure to know and I am very sad to leave. If it weren't for a very promising job opportunity elsewhere I would have had no intention of leaving the company anytime soon.

    Cons

Stark recently opened its doors to new retail sales as opposed to being a trade showroom only. It has been very difficult trying to establish a retail client base on Long Island and I feel the company needs to better iron out the details on how to target these clients and compete with other retail carpet stores in the area. I'm sure this is something they are working on, but it could definitely use some improvement. That being said, I believe this is only a con for someone working within the company and not something that the clients would necessarily notice or find an issue with.

    Advice to Management

Keep heading in the direction you're going! The products practically speak for themselves so with a little extra love in advertising and reigning in a better way to target retail clients, I think the company only has good things ahead of them.

    Pros

Initiative is rewarded. The company truly cares about its employees. Support is available whenever asked for. Management is receptive to suggestions.

    Cons

None worth commenting on. I haven't experienced cons but this app won't let you post until you hit twenty words.

    Advice to Management

Keep listening and valuing employee input!
