I have been working at Starkey Hearing Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Starkey is a great place to work. It has been through a tremendous amount over the last year, but has managed to come out even stronger. With an entirely new executive team, the future is very bright

    Cons

A lot of changes can make some people uneasy. In the end it will all be worth it if people stay focused and work hard.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work. Thank you for your transparency and focus on making the company even better than it is today.

I worked at Starkey Hearing Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Every employee starts with 4 weeks paid vacation, Plus 5 paid holidays. After 3 years you get an additional week. So overall 6 weeks paid time off? Tough to beat... Not sure how some people list 6 days of vacation? Sure they pro-rate it so if you start in late August you dont get 4 weeks... Good people, all smiles. Lots and lots of people contribute to the hearing foundation and get to go on mission trips! Life changing expereince working next to Mr and Mrs Austin fitting hearing aids in the sweltering heat when they could be relaxing on a yacht instead of busting their butts to make the world a better place - tough to argue anything different when you witness their effort on your own. They do weekly drawings for Twins tickets, Vikings tickets, timberwolves tickets... They have bi monthly activities for all employees, breakfast with Santa, Halloween events, family extravaganzas, 5K's, carriage rides...

    Cons

You have to wait 90 days for benefits to kick in... There is this unspoken bond between lots of people that makes it a political environment to get noticed. Now this is not that different from other companies as this is not my first rodeo, but something stick out about the significance of this one.

I worked at Starkey Hearing Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some interesting projects to work on with some really chill and awesome technicians to help perform the work. Great ideas and collaborative if one goes 'down' the heirarchy.

    Cons

Extremely political, difficult to push new ideas, very structured top-down approach. Engineers have almost no say in projects and management seems to squander cool ideas that could pan out well. The lead engineers are also a bit behind the times in technology and do things very waterfall and with little innovation. It usually is a bunch of older men who think they're entitled to their job and propose ideas that are on the market already and claim them as new.

    Advice to Management

Listen to engineers, and if you say you're flexible then act flexible.

    Pros

Great People, Reimbursement for travel, good pay, great company. I was happy with the company overall.

    Cons

Travel is everywhere but where you live. Not too many cons. You do travel a ton and that was the worst thing about it.

I worked at Starkey Hearing Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company has gym and free workout training program for those that have been there > 1year and sign up for starfit. They have on site medical clinic for Starkey employees.

    Cons

The company plays many tricks with benefits to lower the amount paid per employee. They have only 6 days of vacation compared to the standard 12 days. They delay medical insurance benefits to start almost a month after one's start date but quit insuring someone the day they quit. Additionally Starkey doesn't match anything to your 401k. They do contribute to an esop without requiring an employee to contribute but it is only 3% with an advertised cap of 6% but I have never seen 6% in all my years of employment even during the "best" years of the company.

Very old fashioned higherarchial management structure...Good old boys network.

Questionable business practices in the last year with executive firings and lawsuits makes this a very unstable place of employment.

Additionally education expenses are limited to 5k with 2 year time commitment from last credit hour. HR keeps changing benefits to undercut the employee. I suggest looking else where. This is a good company for foreign citizens looking to get green card before moving to a different employer.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company, flush out more of upper management, and improve benefits and pay to competitive levels to keep the talented people.

    Pros

Great atmosphere, you will find honesty if you approach your managers with a sense of gratitude. Great benefits, good PTO, Department is pretty flexible and family oriented.

    Cons

Sometimes management is not aware of what the employees need to improve their jobs.

    Advice to Management

To be aware of what the employees need to get their job done quickly and end frustration

I worked at Starkey Hearing Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Amazing health insurance and generous paid time off.

    Cons

The atmosphere is rigidly conservative. The rules/policies are inconsistent depending on who your manager is and what department you work in.

    Advice to Management

Listen, and I mean really listen to your employees. Remember that they are people who, when given the opportunity, will have creative ideas that may be outside the box, but just may be a really great suggestion.
