I worked at Starwood Capital (Less than a year)

    Pros

Incredible amount of responsibility for young employees, great training, work with really smart people. Highly competitive comp at the bottom of the pyramid and gets better and better as you go up.

    Cons

Total "you can't sit here," wannabe intimidating mentality mixed in with a bunch of nerds who can't speak let alone connect with people. highly quant culture. Working in Greenwich is also depressing as hell. The culture is as bad as everyone says it is, but if you love real estate it is worth it for the training.

    Pros

Really loved working here! Great people, great team, and culture.

    Cons

No room to move up as an EA but that's pretty standard in finance jobs for EA's.

    Pros

Starwood Capital Group is a really great internship to have if you are looking to explore the field of private investment real estate.

    Cons

I don't have anything negative to say about working at Starwood Capital Group. The people I worked at were incredibly helpful, especially to someone who has little finance knowledge.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice to management. I think the company is run very well and since I was an intern there, I don't have any advice for the management.

I worked at Starwood Capital full-time

    Pros

Having a relatively flat structure provides junior employees with access to executives. Many perks, including free breakfast, lunch and dinner. Many very intelligent, passionate employees.

    Cons

HR likes to tell people "you can make what you want out of your career here." While on the face, this is a positive suggestion of limitless potential, in reality it means that if you burn yourself out you may or may not get rewarded. 12-16 hour days are so normal that a 10 hour day feels like a half day.

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees more.

I have been working at Starwood Capital full-time

    Pros

    Cons

Pretty intense working environment. Extended working hours as always.
