I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Was able to get hours, flexible schedule.

    Cons

It was a job trying to get people to go on Timeshare tours. Do people really want timeshares in this day and age?

    Advice to Management

    Management was actually pretty good.

    Pros

you can dress in business casual attire everyday

    Cons

A lot of micro managing, salary employees are treated like hourly employees, high stress and negative environment, you have to kiss up to get a promotion, they do not develop you for growth within the company

I have been working at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great culture, Creative, led rather than followed, Industry leader, encouraged idea exchanges, risk conscious, environmentally conscious, place to be

    Cons

Purchased by a larger competitor, culture changing for the worse, pay, lay offs, relocations, less nimble, stodgy, transitioning, confusion, less supplier conscious

Former Intern - Tourism in Hilton Head Island, SC

I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed the resort feel of the hotel and being around happy families on vacation. They also have a wide range of job opportunities within the tourism field.

    Cons

I found that this particular hotel, Westin on Hilton Head Island, was old with old management, and was hard to modernize things. This may have changed since 2012. The fact that it is a large chain makes it difficult to fully control the quality of the lower ranks within the employee chain.

    Advice to Management

Be stricter with hiring process and really make sure the employees are doing their jobs. It was quite easy to get away with doing nothing, and there was little motivation to do more.

    Pros

Easy work, easy training, promote fast pace.

    Cons

attendance is a big issue there, repetitive work, HR isn't that great.

    Advice to Management

Fix the HR and take away the certain medical notes you need from a regular doctor.

I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The hotel was willing to set my schedule around my school hours. Which allowed me to have no conflicts with graduating on time.

    Cons

Hotel made guest pay for things like internet access which at other hotels were complimentary; this frustration would often cause for guests to call and complain.

    Advice to Management

Policies were counterproductive and made the job more difficult than it needed to be. Some management reconstruction needs to happen.
