I have been working at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time

    Pros

    They hire people
Big systems with some mid level technology about 20 years old
    Nice to talk about

    Cons

    Reverse discriminate against people
Hire illegal l1-b's and replace good American employees with them
    Treat people very badly
Firing people left and right after takeover - a good thing if they get rid of more bad senior management hurting company and employees
Fire good management and keep poor management that is abusive and antiquated in technology
Say bad things about best people to keep poor people and bad outdated tech and managers that never meet a deadline

    Advice to Management

Stop the bad practices to cover up for bad managers that can't deliver, stop firing best people to hire more outsourced low end people which is probably illegal with all those l1-b visas to hire tons of low end unqualified people to replace American IT talent saying Americans should step aside for outsourced illegal immigrants and aliens. If new Marriott management can accomplish these things will help the people, company and country.

I have been working at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Starwood is in some ways bizarre. While being a Fortune 500 company with over 150.000 employees, it feels like a star-up company, with everyone trying to contribute to its success. Starwood has developed a management culture that fosters innovation and trying out things. Is it perfect? Definitely not. (see cons). However, the more I experience other companies and their culture, the more I value Starwood's company culture. It's worth a lot more than pay and pay isn't bad (average, I would say).

    Cons

The Human Resources function in this company is poorly developed. While this can vary by hotel or office, the former global HR leadership has been detrimental to the otherwise positive culture of the company (which is not shaped by HR, fortunately). Complex hiring process, lack of initiative and many other aspects have disappointed me on more than one occasion. Once, I even only found out my new salary (internal promotion) by looking at my pay-check. Way to go, HR!

    Advice to Management

Advice seems redundant, as Starwood has been acquired by Marriott. To the Marriott HR leadership I would recommend: learn from the culture, try to understand where the entrepreneurial spirit came from (which is underdeveloped in Marriott from what can be observed), and try and contribute the HR process and leadership in Marriott that the company is so famous for.

I have been working at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours and great working culture. People help each other and less politics. Not sure what else to write but the field is asking for 20 min words.

    Cons

Board of directors are thirsty of money. Benefits get worse over the years. Not sure what else to write but the field is asking for 20 min words.

    Advice to Management

    Put employee first!
