I have been working at State Bank of India full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

One of the largest banks in the world, and the largest in India, working here is a great experience and respected by people (customers/clients) which is almost impossible to find in any other Govt/Private institute.

    Cons

Salary offered in clerical cadre is less compared to other Govt institutions, the work load now a days specifically pressure asserted on staff to source maximum cross selling business(SBI Life Insurance, SBI General Insurance, SBI Mutual Funds) is high and prompting few staff members towards resigning the job or in some rare cases to take some violent decisions. (This Views are purely personal)

    Advice to Management

Incentives and commission should be provided for staff for sourcing maximum deposits and quality advances which is now a nightmare rather than Cross Selling business by exerting heavy/unbearable pressure on staff and improving the monetary benefits to clerical and Subordinate staff(subordinate staff are worst hit and poorly paid).

I have been working at State Bank of India full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent opportunity to learn best practices of banking; there are variations in the nature of work; job security and decent salary

    Cons

There are many legacy issues which are affecting the performance of the bank; the top management, particularly the DMDs and above, are least concerned about the betterment of the bank; too much external interference affecting the decision making ability of the management.

    Advice to Management

Hypocricy and sycophancy - these two serious ailments in the higher level of the management - are to be avoided and real performers to be rewarded.
