I have been working at State Bank of India full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1) The bank helps you grow in experience in a very short time. You are placed across different departments, so the exposure is great. You learn new stuff about banking all the time. 2) The entry level CTC is better than the competition. 3) You get to know how to handle immense number of customers during a day, the sheer number is huge, add the complexity of customers coming from across the spectrum of classes, you can imagine the level of knowledge you gain in handling any situation.

    Cons

    1) The HR department is crumbling. The department is occupied by the people of who have zero knowledge and experience in that field. But since, that posting is never at branch and at administrative office level, people use all sorts of tricks to stay there as long as possible. 2) The upper management seems disconnected from the ground reality and expects from branches the kind of work, which is highly improbable with the abysmal state of infrastructure provided. 3) The middle management is full of sycophants who will not voice there opinion about the bad working conditions, but instead pressurize you to do upper management's work. You can forget about your voice getting heard. 4) The misplaced incentives of cross-selling, is already putting the bank business in jeopardy, it will soon put the whole bank out of business, which definitely sounds impossible, but it might happen one day.
