I worked at State Center Community College District full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They employ a lot of people. Have some good benefits such as tuition reimbursement. There are opportunities for upward mobility. Skill sets you develop are transferable.

    Cons

There are a lot of politics going on, which limit ones ability to move forward, unless you are a part of the club. Lots of unwritten unofficial rules are at work. Not everyone is held to the same standard as others. They appear concerned, but really don't care about the well-being of employees.

    Advice to Management

Be genuine and authentic. Work to change the culture that is currently at work. in the end employees will enjoy their jobs and perform better, rather than resent them. Stop passing the buck on lower levels of management. Offer employees opportunities to mentor in other areas.

I worked at State Center Community College District full-time

    Pros

Great benefits! Most staff are interested in helping students.

    Cons

Hard to advance depending on which classification you work in.

    Advice to Management

Make better use of in-house resources to save money. Listen to the input of faculty and staff and actually incorporate it into day to day running of the district. It is great that so many people are hired from within, but it is also can be a negative... it isn't a bad thing to bring in some fresh mid-upper level management and some new ways of operating along with them.
