I worked at State Street for more than a year

    Pros

My immediate manager and my coworkers were fantastic for the most part

    Cons

In fairness I can only speak to my own experiences as an AOM market coordinator in quincy MA. It was the biggest joke I’ve ever been a part of. I should have known immediately after starting when it took 6 whole days just to get computer access. We worked with in house made systems that were a joke and team members would get blamed for problems they had no control over. Serious legal paperwork would get lost because... of poor management. Training was a joke. You watch someone else do it for 2 days, then you’re on your own and immediately get a hard time from other teams because you don’t know what your doing yet. Randomly I would lose access to systems I needed for my job and it once took 6 weeks to get access back. Fulltime employees started to leave and they couldn’t be replaced because the work was supposedly going to Bangalore, so the position would be filled there instead. However, the work never actually went to Bangalore because of their incompetence so our team just had to work longer hours instead while the date of work transfer kept being pushed back. 18 months later, almost no work has moved over. Quality employees were leaving left and right and I would only hear the Managing Director talking about “losing bodies” while no one above my immediate supervisors would be looking into why so many people are quitting. I suspect upper management liked that folks were leaving pro-actively, so they didn’t get any severance. It was eventually expected that we work some hours every weekend on top of the long hours during the week. Fulltime employees were also going several years between raises and minimal bonuses. They would also hire contractors (temps) under the assumption they could possibly be brought on fulltime. Then once on the job they would learn there was no possibility of that. My manager was honest with me on this upfront, but others weren’t that fortunate. There is so much more I would add if I had the space. All in all the company is going to be in rough shape for a while. Clients are getting fed up with the increasingly lower quality of work and management’s solution is to focus on cost cutting and send more jobs overseas without sending the work. Brilliant move. No wonder their stock has gone down by half in the last year 18 months or so. After I left I became much happier. Found a job with a big pay increase and where I’m treated as a person and not a “body”. I would rather go back to washing dishes than ever working for this sorry excuse for a bank again. I strongly advise anyone thinking of working here to hold out for something better.

    Advice to Management

take care of your employees. no one is invested in their jobs and the increased workloads are causing mistakes and costing you money. pay more, get better systems and hire appropriate amounts of people.
