I worked at State Tax Commission - Idaho full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The agency was a great place to start out of college and full of new things to learn. The people were great and there were options to move around.

    Cons

The money was sub par and under whelming. This is not a place to go to if you are looking to make money. The politics with management can be very stressful.

    Advice to Management

Do your best to get raises for people or you will soon find yourself spread thin.

    Pros

self-directed working environment, strong learning and collaborative atmosphere, great deal of respect for employee growth and idea sharing. No micromanagement, positive constructive feedback, and commitment to quality work.

    Cons

Less opportunity for promotion than the private sector; however, those with a "never say die" attitude can move up. To meet career goals, relocation can be a factor and choice of cities limited when working for taxation authorities. This city not my ideal choice for place to live, but that is offset by the great work environment.

    Pros

it is a good stable business sinceit is the state government. good hours and pay along with good benefits to boot.

    Cons

since there is a budget crunch i have not had a raise in two years, but i guess that is part of the trade with the public sector.

    Advice to Management

the management does a good job of keeping me involved, they just need to find a way to get us better training.
