    Pros

Medical & dental insurance are relatively inexpensive, deferred comp & retirement programs are lucrative, work is challenging (although effort is ignored; see below.).

    Cons

When promoted to the supervisory level, individuals are taught to lie, treat former colleagues condescendingly, undervalue effort, and value nothing but quantity. They also take full advantage of their ability to fire anyone without cause.

    Advice to Management

Start valuing effort and treating your employees with honesty and fairness. Purge those who give you "high numbers" but abysmal quality.

I worked at State of Arizona (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Government employment is rewarding and the benefits are the best. The State rarely lay-off which means job security. There is always room fro advancement.

    Cons

No pay increases unless you promote. Regardless of a persons performance, a manager can dislike a person and let them go because of "At Will'. I think an employee should still be given a reason as to why their employment is ending.

    Advice to Management

Recognize your employees for their performance, attendance. etc.

I worked at State of Arizona full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good retirement, health benefits, sick leave

    Cons

Too many upper management people were forced to resign or terminated. Now hundreds of years of knowledge is gone. Executive management is replacing them with friends and relatives that are not experienced to even answer phones. In the last year and a half the greatest mentors have left the agency.

    Advice to Management

Review and respect those that have committed most of their lives to helping the less fortunate. Value your employees.
