I have been working at State of Arkansas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are awesome, extra holidays that most places of employment do not observe, good hours, no weekends, always work to do

    Cons

Stressful, lots of work and no one is cross trained to help out or cover if any person is out of the office, very political, difficult to take time off because no one is trained, huge turnover rate makes training difficult

I worked at State of Arkansas full-time

    Pros

There are lots of job opportunities within the organization for growth or change. Stable employment with job security.

    Cons

The pay needs to be increased and they didn't give raises in pay, just a merit bonus that didn't make much of a difference.

    Advice to Management

Fight more for your employees to be valued.

    Pros

It was rewarding working with patients and some of the great, talented, friendly staff members.

    Cons

Micro managed in a position that did not need to be; especially when your employees have a great work ethic.
    Management does not listen.
    Racism!!!

    Advice to Management

It doesn't matter how much your paid if your treated like a dog!

I worked at State of Arkansas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Meeting new people from all over the country and world, as well as local House and Senate Representatives of the great state of Arkansas, the Governor, First Lady, the entire Capitol Police Dept., and guests from out of town just visiting.

    Cons

Lack of team work, and ethically slack on slighter scale of management.
Telling others confidential medical business; under certain supervision.

    Advice to Management

Leaders are often born out of humility, not the other way around. I have been taught to work hard, and speak as you would like to be spoken to. Only the same courtesy should be expected. Sexual orientation is also an issue.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. They know what will make them happy.

Paid leave could be used fairly easily. Coworkers were very friendly. Weekly team building activities were done and mostly fun.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to lower employees

I have been working at State of Arkansas full-time

    Pros

    Love working with the tourists.

    Cons

Poor management. Make sure you have eniugh time save up to make up for highway department failures. There is no formal orientation. There is definitely a culture of bullying allowed due to unskilled management not doing their jobs. You have to ride on a bus for a week and spend the nite in a room with a stranger 2x/yr. Awkward and not fun. Supposed to teach more about the state but who can learn when stressed and sleeping with one eye open at nite?? And often there is one person working at a center with transients hanging around, as well as being on main highways where anything can happen. Cameras don't work , panic buttons don't work, etc. Not safe.

    Advice to Management

Learn to manage. Use write ups to form a paper trail. Follow disciplinary actions as noted in handbook. Have a designated person to orient new people so it is consistent. Decrease trips to once a yr. Make sure highway department fixes everything it is responsible for in a timely manner.

I worked at State of Arkansas full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The pay is decent. Retirement plan is good.

    Cons

You can work for the state for 10+ years and they hire someone off the street with no experience and the same job title making what you make. The management team have forgotten that they were once at the bottom of the food chain. Working for the state is all a political struggle. You don't advance unless you know the right person.

    Advice to Management

Remember where you came from and how you got to where you are today!
