    I have been working at State of Florida full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Set schedule, no weekends or holidays. Great job security. Very affordable health for employee or families. FL pension benefit is one of the most well funded pensions in the country. Excellent leave (annual/sick) benefits. Diverse work environment.

    Cons

    The state of Florida is a cheapskate. Many state offices are located in "rough parts" of town. Pay is lower than private sector. Rules, laws, statutes dictate how u do your job. Some positions require irregular and emergency duty hours (think hurricane duty).

    Pros

    Normal 8 to 5, Monday through Friday, no weekends, fair pay, decent benefits, life ins, dental, vision, local business

    Cons

    No over time, changes in management, moral issues and state position quarterly performance reviews, bi-monthly staff meetings, no hr locally , just temporary staff.

    Listen to employees

    Pros

    Good health insurance, 28 annual days, 12 sick days, 10 vacation days if your are SES.

    Cons

    Low pay. Executive management turnover is high and positions are filled with young, green, inexperienced people.
