I have been working at State of Georgia Department of Human Resources full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

If you have a passion to help others rather than just working a job, this is the place for you. Every Georgia resident that needs help can get it in some form at DHS, so the job really matters in making others lives better. Even in IT, there are not a lot of OT, weekend work, etc. since it is a Government job.

      Cons

Being government, the pay is below standard. Perks are not what they used to be for government jobs. Raises are inconsistent and based almost solely on what the Governor wants to push through congress.

      Advice to Management

With perks being cut, the base pay needs to be increased.

I worked at State of Georgia Department of Human Resources full-time for less than a year

        Pros

Working for DHS has several benefits to include becoming an official state employee. As a state employee, the benefits are superior compared to many other non state agencies to include a significantly matched 401k as well as affordable healthcare costs. Another major pro/ benefit is the ability to move around to different state agencies for experience, increase in salary and personal goals

        Cons

There are some opportunities that still need to improve in the area of competitive salaries such as the department of family and children services which is where I was employed

        Advice to Management

Create a more structured in house training program that includes more peer and supervisory mentor-ship and assistance

I have been working at State of Georgia Department of Human Resources full-time for more than 3 years

        Pros

The position allows me to have some flexibility. I have a great work/life balance. The department aims to promote best practices. If your skills excel, there is great opportunity to move up with the agency.

        Cons

Pay sucks comparing to other child welfare State agencies. State health benefit plan is mediocre.
