    Pros

Benefits are some of the best

I have been working at State of Kansas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work itself is good honest work, you're not trying to sell someone anything. Great coworkers and management in my area. Some flexibility with schedule, no weekends, holiday pay, and work from home if you've worked there long enough.

    Cons

Low pay compared to market. State benefits are rapidly going down hill. High premiums, high out-of-pocket, and high copays. Right now they are looking to cut costs instead of make improvements.

    Advice to Management

State jobs have always paid less but they used to provide decent benefits to make up for that. If you don't pay well and your benefits are bad, only the very loyal and the bad will stay.

    Pros

Good experience with the public and you learn how to operate with a limited budget. The state provides a good environment to grow your skills.

    Cons

Not a lot of advancement opportunities and virtually no raises. Chance of layoffs or programs being cut if the budget is not there.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to provide incentives to employees to reduce turnover.
