    Pros

Depending on the department you work for, good work-life balance, pay and benefits. Overall, it's a pretty good place to work.

    Cons

Red tape of government bureaucracy is the biggest complaint. Some of the processes for securing products or equipment to do your job can be long and time consuming.

I have been working at State of Michigan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They have good benefits to include 401 k matching.

    Cons

It is difficult to be promoted in the department that I work in. People who work for Michigan DHHS have been stereotyped as being "lazy" which is just not true.

Out-of-date computer programs hamper ability to do job; little room for advancement; easy to burn out, as work demands are so great.

I worked at State of Michigan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Scheduling flexibility, non-invasive management oversight, upbeat environment, stable and secure career.
Promotions usually granted on seniority, but not always; good balance of considering both vet status and merit.
Good opportunities to get involved in your own way (leadership trainings, working at field offices).
Excellent place to learn more about the medical field.

    Cons

Very sedentary work; sometimes emotionally heavy (you read some heart-wrenching stuff, and have to tell needy people "no")

I have been working at State of Michigan part-time

    Pros

Scheduling is flexible for being a student.

    Cons

Pay is too low for what competitors are offering. Students are jack of all trades pretty much. This is a bad and a good thing.

Good: allows students to see what they may like to do.
Bad: students have no real commitment to their work because their job assignments can change.

    Advice to Management

Pay us more. Have a more defined PD for students.

    Cons

    The clients can become difficult
