      Services Specialist

Apr 10, 2021 - Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Grand Rapids, MI

      Pros

The pros of this job is fair pay and excellent benefits. Because of the union the pay is better than anywhere else locally, especially if you only have a BSW. If you have an MSW, it's still the best in terms of public/nonprofit agencies. You will get to the top pay tier within 5 years automatically, not based on performance. For CPS workers, the flexibility of scheduling and using flex time for personal appointments is a great perk, You will not be micromanaged if you meet all of the deadlines and due dates (though doing that is not always easy, but worth it to avoid micromanaging).

      Cons

The top down pressures to perform at a constantly faster pace, with more work without any real support is what causes the burn out more so then the difficult work with clients. The system is not set up to support workers (so it's not a problem of individual bad managers, as much as it's a systemic problem) and it's not a place where you can thrive long-term, either professionally or personally. If you are okay working a job with no real appreciation or support from administration, but good pay/benefits you may like it here.

      Pros

I think the benefits are good.

      Cons

You are just one of so many that you just get lost in crowd and left on your own. Also any concerns or complaints fall on deaf ears. They have no idea of what they are asking or expecting a person to do. Most of them have never done it.
