    Pros

Professional development, management involvement, employee engagement, competitive compensation and benefits packages, training opportunities, respectful work environment, and community of supportive co-workers.

    Cons

State of Michigan is slow to change and would not necessarily meet the need of prospective employees who desire rapid unpredictable work environments.

    Advice to Management

Consider the possibility of introducing new technology and offering unique organizational development techniques in order to maximize human resources in the workplace.

    Pros

Great management, administration and allowed to work on projects

    Cons

no retirement benefits, the state eliminated the defined benefit pension in 1997

    Advice to Management

If somehow the state could make the benefits more attractive, they might get more outstanding employee's?

I worked at State of Michigan full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I worked there for almost 10 years. The pay is excellent. So are the health benefits, vacation and sick leave time, and 401K. I had congenial bosses and co-workers. We had casual days and occasional office parties. It's a good company for work-life balance.

    Cons

There was a government shut down when I was there which was very brief. However, management communicated as much as they could to us.

    Advice to Management

I would have liked to have more career guidance as to how I could improve my skills and move up in the company.

I have been working at State of Michigan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, great managers, helping people of all walks of life. Very professional colleagues who are easy to work with and make work enjoyable. We are like family. We encourage one another to develop our skills further and then train others in our office.

    Cons

Sometimes you'd like to turn some difficult people away, and then you realize that's why they are there to see you... When you work for the public sector, there are no fringe benefits, only a salalry, paid timeoff, and great medical. No free passes to yoga, discounts on flights or cars, etc.

    Advice to Management

    keep up the great work!
