I have been working at State of Michigan part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The only pros are that this position allows VERY flexible hours, there is a mentorship program, you can be a member of a State activities team (if that interest you), and you frequently get free food (in light of department meetings or outings)

    Cons

This position definitely humbles you... This position is good as a stepping stone for field related experience, however, I am utterly baffled by this position. You do the work of senior level analysts at half the pay and little to no recognition, the State doesn’t allow you to work more than 120-ish hours a month (or 29 hours a week), and they don’t pay you for holidays you think you would get paid for. There is no room for advancement or opportunity to expand on professional skills via the intersection of other disciplines (I.e. cross training). The work is repetitive, mindless, and can be slow.
