    Pros

The benefits are great, you know there's equal pay throughout because of processes, a lot of diversity initiative and unions.

    Cons

Employees are often expected to do more with less and yearly raises aren't all that much. Processes can move slower because of so many agencies bring involved.

I have been working at State of Minnesota (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good vacation time. Many good, hard-working people. There are opportunities for ambitious workers if they are willing to strive for it.

    Cons

Too political. The pay is not very good, but depends on what position you are in. Some in leadership positions are too controlling.

    Advice to Management

Open more positions up outside of St. Paul.

I worked at State of Minnesota full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The retirement and benefit options available. Pay rate very good. Seasonal positions get your foot in the door. The majority of employees do a very good job and should be better recognized.

    Cons

Usual office politics, some "good ol' boy" network still exists. Unrealistic metrics. Some supervisors could use better people skills. Sometimes stress level can be very high depending on position, co-workers or supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Metrics system does not take into account certain factors that exist in the inability to reach target. What's important...quality or quantity? Clearer expectations in ones job as well as better OJT.

Good benefits package. Lots of overtime. Set schedule.

    Cons

Terrible management a bunch of people running things they have NO EXPERIENCE IN, and thinking they are all that and a bag of chips.

    Advice to Management

Shop trying to just find things bad in people try to focus, and build on the good side of an employee. My god if they are that bad just get rid of the person.

I have been working at State of Minnesota full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working environment, autonomy, and mission are great

    Cons

No frills--you have to report every hour of work and be accountable to taxpayers; as a tax-payer funded employee, you won't have even a free cup of coffee, no lunches, holiday parties, etc.. No big deal but might take some getting used to if you've worked in private sector
