    Pros

Some really great people to work with, information sharing, getting the job done if you have the right networking within the employee system. Currently our benefits are ok if they do not implement more takeways during the next legislative session.

    Cons

They may reduce our pay and benefits during the next legislative session. No pay increases for the past two years may continue, increasd furloigh days per month, and drastic reduction in employee medical, dental, dental and vision may also be implemented. There's no incentive to continue working as a state employee if you realize there may be nothing to look forward to as a retiree. There are little or no opportunities for upward mobility within your own agency unless someone quits. retires or transfers. You are forced to leave an agency you might enjoy working for in order to take a promotional postion with another agency.

Good pay... promoting is a joke

    Pros

I liked the pay and benefits (they were good before ACA at least). Not much good to say, the training was sloppy and surface. They had people who never trained before training, and people who never supervised before supervising, and people who never managed before managing. Sorry, guess thats not a pro

    Cons

As much as they say they promote based on performance and skill, they don't. I watched the new boss's old team get promoted one by one to supervisor until all the sups were the boss's buddies.

    Pros

The Department of Public Safety boasts some of the best equipment in the country. The staff that are there are deeply committed to the values the organization talks about. There is a large degree of mobility to move positions both laterally and vertically.

    Cons

PERS is a brutally high deduction (around 23%). Other benefits are paltry compared to the private sector or even other law enforcement agencies.

    Pros

Benefits are decent and the time off is better than most. The people you work with on average are good people who want to do their jobs.

    Cons

Most of the state is decent. Welfare was one of the worst jobs I have ever had. One of the supervisors stole the Christmas party fund to buy heroin and the office supervisor told me inappropriate stories while working out. It was an extremely uncomfortable situation.
