- "A blind eye turned towards abuse of the system (some individual's seem to get more overtime than others, excessive uses of force against youth held there but made to look justified in written reports, supervisors in romantic relationships with staff they are directly in charge of)" (in 6 reviews)
- "Trying to find good quality candidates is nearly impossible due to the low pay (compared to cities, counties, and private sector), furloughs, mediocre health insurance, way understaffed, masks masks masks, huge chunk of paycheck goes to PERS, and upper management doesn’t seem to care or be concerned with the downhill direction we’re headed in." The Gov has no appreciation
Jul 29, 2015 - Grade 36 in Carson City, NVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You may have job security.
Cons
No career path.- unless you're a male Low wages, lack of raises, furloughs, and when you do get a 3% increase, they reduce it by raising healthcare and benefit costs. I netted a . -1.5% decrease on my paycheck after the first raise in 5 years was offset by an increase in benefits costs. Outdated salary range that do not reflect the increase in the cost of living over the last 8 years. No education funds No training funds No mentoring (unless you're a male) No employee appreciation - in the form of an email from the Gov. Employees contribute to their own appreciation and throw themselves a party. The state wouldn't spend a nickel to show appreciation. Medicaid has better insurance then the state offers and new employees don't get any insurance or pension. No upper management HR training so no hope for change. A hierarchy that does not allow access to decision makers, information coming from Grade 2X or 3X becomes rumor after having to navigate the 'Supervisor/Manager' game.

Decent place to work
Aug 28, 2012 - IT Professional in Carson City, NVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Stability is the biggest pro. The jobs aren't going away. Some of the benefits are good, 15 days of annual leave and 15 days of sick leave per year is nice. Middle management is better than upper managementMiddle management is better than upper managementMiddle management is better than upper management.
Cons
Pay is below market. Insurance is getting very expensive and covering less. Morale is low due to these factors. Upper management are political appointees, so the quality varies widely.

Challenging, secure, great benefits. I felt the on the job training was superior.
Cons
Government bureaucracy, budget constraints. Occasional misinformation from upper Management created difficulties for me to perform a new task proficiently.

Pros
All government offices are closed for holidays.
Cons
Upper management tend to be forceful and when their philosophy isn't accepted employees are then targeted and harassed until either they quit or are fired.

No appreciation
Jan 21, 2022 - Developmental Disabilities Specialist III in Elko, NVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Co-workers and individuals supported. Job security because everywhere is short staffed.
Cons
No appreciation from upper managementNo appreciation from upper managementNo appreciation from upper management. Understaffed and large caseloads. Upper management continues to dump more responsibilities and expectations but provides no training. COVID has made things go from bad to worse. Work moral is very low and people are leaving! Basically it’s not worth it to work for the state anymore.

Constant job openings: that should tell you something.

40 hours, Mon-Fri. Government work, and this office is fairly immune from layoffs. Base line employees are great people to work with.
Cons
Upper management, starting from the top and down to the first line supervisors are incompetent and micro managers. This poor work environment is supported by all top level managers, with an attitude of 'if you don't like it, leave'. No adjustment of work day for family issues that arise. No positive feedback on work performance. This all goes back to poor supervisor training. Does not care about victims whatsoever. Very political. If you complain, you get targeted and forced out.

Good job if you don't want to be challenged or move up.
Jul 13, 2014 -RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
All holidays off, pay is ok for job required. Great group of co-workers make the job fun.
Cons
Direct supervisor is a bi-polar, unexperienced, nasty, thinks she knows it all. Upper management has no clue how much her direct reports put up with - condescending comments, racial slurs, vulgar language.

Old School Mentality
Jan 30, 2020 - Family Services Specialist in Las Vegas, NVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
No nights or weekends, paid holidays and sick and vacation time.
Cons
Most workers promote based on who they know rather than what they know. A lot of upper management have an old school way of thinking.
