I worked at State of North Carolina full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not a lot of good reasons to work here. The only benefit you have is free parking while working close to downtown. Very unprofessional staff,

    Cons

Mangers are very unstable in their work and only care about themselves. No help is provided to the employees. Managers have their favorites and if you don' tend up being one you will be forced out.

I worked at State of North Carolina full-time

    Pros

Steady work, very little weekend or holiday work.

    Cons

Low salary, raises are few and small. Many managers are untrained and do a poor job of supervision.

    Advice to Management

Train your new managers in how to be a manager and how to deal with sexual harassment issues.

    Pros

Time off accrual. A no stress job.

    Cons

Most employees are long time waiting for retirement employees. Most are negative, lazy and don't care. System set up so there is no accountability as management doesn't want to deal with grievance process. No equity in work balance, most supervisors are not adequately trained as supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Hold employees accountable. Don't continue to hire within - DMA needs fresh people. There could be a lot more work accomplished with accountability. If you continue to hired within the State it only perpetuates the mindset of working for retirement. Lack of communication within departments creates a lack of coordination, communication and a poorly ran healthcare system. The top heads of DMA need to get their heads out of the sand. Perhaps with new manage care in the future the healthcare system may improve.

    Pros

    none, low-paying for the masses

    Cons

greedy legislators who get their raises always & throw money away on air conditioning the parking area for their building...Oh, I guess their cars mustn't get too hot...inconsistent HR throughout the agencies of NC...corrupt, unprofessional...always, ALWAYS money for contractors but not for state employees...NC does not respect employee loyalty, service nor effort
gets rid of positions, only to hire new people to "newly created" positions within months of getting rid of needed positions...JUST A MONEY GAME for the rich
    Only the cold-blooded need apply

I have been working at State of North Carolina full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Get to not work weekends or holidays, health insurance is good.

    Cons

TB lab is the lowest paid in the entire laboratory. For the amount of work expected to be performed the pay is not enough. I do not understand how the state justifies paying one person 36000 and the other 48000 for doing the exact same job and the 36000 person does more. They are just concerned with a warm body filling a spot and not a quality competent employee. Good luck getting accurate results.

    Advice to Management

Raise pay or keep loosing the good quality people!

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at State of North Carolina full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, once you get in and last a year as long as you don't commit a felony you have a job for life .. Even if you are a terrible employee (this isn't really a pro) they just got new HR managers so this might change.

    Cons

Poor management, poor management, poor management. Reactive never proactive. If you have an ounce of work ethic they will work you to death and promote those with zero work ethic.

    Advice to Management

Just retire. SSA needs to take you over before you run the agency into the ground.

Needs new administration/ Management needs to be more diverse and knowledgeable.

I worked at State of North Carolina full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I gained a lot of knowledge about medical issues and interpreting medical records. NOTE: I left this agency in 2006. You don't list 2006 under Last Year at Employer.

    Cons

This is a production oriented environment - very stressful and discriminatory.

    Advice to Management

    New management is needed.
