I worked at State of Oklahoma full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The position is incredibly stable with a lot of room for career longevity. The benefits, such as health, retirement, 401k can potentially outweigh the non-competitive wages for this position. Private sector pays much higher, otherwise a good place to work when they have the budget for your department.

    Cons

Non-competitive wages, Little room for promotion and bureaucracy. Dependency on state government for budgetary matters makes upgrading and equipment upkeep very difficult. The people make the job work with what they have, however if more money found its way into capital improvements for these positions it would exponentially improve the working conditions.

I have been working at State of Oklahoma full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Benefits, great Co Workers, good hours. And an hour for lunch. Upper management is really nice they get involved with fun things for staff to do.

    Cons

No pay raises no yearly evaluation, you can only get a raise if you change job to another department that pays you more money.

    Advice to Management

Let people know there are no pay raises unless you change job positions. No yearly evaluation.

I worked at State of Oklahoma full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits and amazing staff. Working with the families, and giving children a safe environment. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to get a job done is awesome.

    Cons

Not enough pay, the state hasn’t had a raise in forever.. some supervisors aren’t supportive in the things you want to accomplish. More work piled upon you and so little time to complete it. The CORE training is a waste of money. On the job training would be more beneficial

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff and always provide ways to improve.

I worked at State of Oklahoma full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The state has great benefits and retirement plans. The insurance is great as well. The employees are great and friendly, the children that I worked with were a blessing, some of the foster parents are amazing!

    Cons

Constantly moving Departments,no since on consistency, lack of pay, management treating employees different, long hours, no comp time, travel reimbursement takes at least a month behind. Phone calls all hours of the night, so much to do and not enough time

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone the same and favoritism

I worked at State of Oklahoma full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Time off, work is interesting. There are usually a couple mature workers in An office so you have someone to be friends with.

    Cons

Lack of training. employees with bad attitudes and poor work ethics, are allowed to be useless so others have to pick up the slack. The merit system makes it very difficult to be fired, which is good and bad. Management gets to do whatever they want with you...who ya gonna tell? If you have a target on your back, they are relentless in their tactics to get you to quit. No raises, lay offs, no money...what the heck have they been doing up til now about budget projections? in my office we almost always had to do a workload and a half or double to cover because it was a revolving door of employees in my child support office. Gary Dart was always saying "thank you for taking care of our children". Well, who was taking care of us? We didn't feel cared about at all. We were basically paralegals with almost minimum wage pay. Well, it felt like it. Child welfare is even worse. More pay however, 24/7, no days off, same kind management issues. Good luck if you take a position there. We regularly did fun things at the office, thanks to the fun commitee!

    Advice to Management

Get some mature people to approve promotions or hire managers. Make a safe place for employees to talk to someone without fear of retribution. Instead of cutting back on EAP, ADD SESSIONS! We need them! Be cognizant of racial issues and cliques that affect morale.
