    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I have been working at State of South Carolina full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good benefits, holidays, good sick and annual leave accrual

    Cons

No raises, no bonuses, denial of use of earned leave

    Advice to Management

Promote those who know from experience the program in question rather than choosing someone who is only appointed to fluff his/her resume. Stop allowing legislators who have no knowledge about the job or agency to create ridiculous statutes related to job position descriptions to kowtow to their special interest groups.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at State of South Carolina full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits. I've been lucky enough to have some good supervisors.

    Cons

Overall poor leadership at the top level. The different facilities are kept in the dark and have little input on decisions that affect their facility. Ten percent of employees do ninety percent of work. Pay is not competitive with public sector, therefore, a lot of direct resident care staff are there because they can't get hired anywhere else.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the "Leadership by Fear" strategy. It doesn't work with anyone with any self-esteem. Good employees don't stay long so you're stuck with mediocre at best.

I have been working at State of South Carolina

    Pros

It has good benefits and the people are okay to work with.

    Cons

It is very bureaucratic, very little chance of upward mobility unless you are a part of a click

    Advice to Management

Get rid of some retirees and let new leadership with fresh ideas come in instead of switching people from one agency to another and saying this person brings a new approach
