I have been working at State of Texas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I work with great people who are motivated and team players. Excellent leadership, lots of recognition within my unit. Work 8 to 5 M-F, no evenings, no WEs, plenty of holidays off. Very nice retirement package, nice health insurance. Comfortable work environment.

    Cons

Pay is not great ... but okay. Very few raises and little room for promotion. Office space is small and cramped. Computer operating system from the old days and very slow!

    Advice to Management

Too my boss, keep up the good work. To the agency leadership, recognize contributions from your managers and give them more operating room.

I have been working at State of Texas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of time off, there are a few discounts for state employees. Will accrue lots of PTO over time and time carries over.

    Cons

No room for advancement, low pay, rules made on the fly, favoritism. Long and slow process to get things done.

    Advice to Management

Be open for change and create an environment where employees can openly communicate without backlash.

I worked at State of Texas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The only pro is free health insurance but it is pretty lousy insurance - HMO but I guess better than nothing.

    Cons

Pay, management could care less about you, even told staff that we are replaceable. I had to quit as I could not stand by and watch what was going on. Home office does nothing about complaints against management. Clients are mistreated. Staff does not care at all. WCY needs to be shut down immediately and all management and staff fired and start over. Very racist management. I was not a PNA but watched all this happen in total disbelief that Austin would allow these managers to continue. Management 99% white, black and Hispanic people passed over for management positions to be given to white people, even after being there over 20 years. Sad.. wake up Austin!

    Advice to Management

Go get a job that does not require you to care about children or people at all.
