I have been working at Statistics Canada full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - More room to choose what you want to do here - Less pressure compared with the private sector

    Cons

    - Too many policies and restrictions to follow - IT technology used here is behind than the outside market

    I worked at Statistics Canada

    Pros

Amazing work environment, some great people, and a relaxed place to work at. Good experience for people who are not studying in a software discipline, but want to become software engineers. For example, I studied electrical engineering, but wanted to do software dev. If you are liked by your managers, you can even take up a part-time job through fswep, as a software developer while you are doing school. Best decision I ever made! Even if you work as a full-time, the work-life balance is unmatched

    Cons

Like the usual stories of government, everything takes a lot of time. You want something installed on your computer? gotta put in a Service request. Based on the type of request, it can take between a few hours to be completed to many many weeks, this can hamper productivity. Other than that, not much I can say. The pay is fairly reasonable as well, although private would definitely pay more for interns if you are experienced.
