I worked at Statoil (More than a year)

    Pros

Statoils values are very straight forward and are great if followed.
If you are already a supervisor, manager, etc. It is easy to move up in the company

    Cons

Some managers can be very strict. Its either there way or no way at all. Basically you have to make sure to do everything the way they want or you are on their bad list. And if you get on their bad list, then you're out of a job. The values are not always followed in the US.

    Advice to Management

Try to be more open minded to your employees. Learn to be leaders and not just a boss. Some managers need to change the way they act towards the employees. Learn to follow Statoils values.

    Pros

Good team to work with. Good company values. Though not always followed internally. Health care benefits were great. 401k and pension. Received decent raises and bonuses every year of employment.

    Cons

Yearly evaluations provide little to no guidance for what needs to be improved or how to improve. Delivery and Behavior goals that are set each year feel arbitrary. There is no real measurement system to account for the score given to the goals set. 2015 was the first year of exodus because of restructuring.

    Advice to Management

Help more employees to obtain external education to that new ideas come to the table. Allow projects to be lead by some of the international office instead of just the central office.

I worked at Statoil full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They have good benefits, flexible work hours and good vacation allowances. The views of Lake Travis are breathtaking. Plenty of parking is available.

    Cons

This company is in a constant state of reorganization. Meaning a possibility of you being laid off. Your length of tenure makes no difference to this company. This norway-based company had its Corporate Office in Houston and purchased the Austin old Brigham company. Brigham ran lean but treated their employees exceptionally well and created a very family-oriented environment. Quickly about a year after takeover you started to see the changes to a more Global sized Company Feel which quickly made you feel like you were just another number. They started Outsourcing jobs vital 2 the success of the company and lay people off which made no sense. They constantly tell you you have nothing to worry about and then they call you into room and tell you your job is eliminated and you are laid off. Then proceeded to treat you like a criminal box your things without you being there and mail them to you. The time that I was there I had four different managers in almost four years time. My personal opinion is that this company will not treat their employees any better than they already are the best thing that could happen to this company is that they sell to a US owner. they don't understand American business.

    Advice to Management

Realize that your best assets are your full-time employees. The reality is that you are under paying these people because you're providing them benefits the reality is you can get those benefits and get paid more money elsewhere. Your human resources department needs serious help.

    Pros

    Great company and great benefits!

    Cons

Just when you think management is bad, think again because management won't stay away from surprising you that it can get worst. GBS is full of horrible leaders and advisors. Not knowing what is going on and easy to blame others. People either have cheated their way up to leadership or they must be super lucky to get what they don't deserve.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of whole GBS management team. They are not just bad apples, they are rotten apples.

    Strong benefits plans. Very competitive.

    Cons

Lack of processes and lack of strong knowledgeable leadership.

    Advice to Management

To drive success, position leaders that can direct team members how to do something, instead of just telling subordinate to get something done.

I worked at Statoil as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers were friendly and great to work with daily.

    Cons

Company didn't support career growth for its employees. More people were on probation than were promoted to higher positions. Although in a contract position, the employees didn't get anything better out of being full-time other than benefits.

    Advice to Management

Employees want career growth and training that matters to their overall development.
