I have been working at Statoil full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good, not best but continues to struggle during downturn. They try their best to survive by promoting the clueless, hence opportunity to the clueless?

    Cons

People who are clueless get promotions, become leaders, controllers, and managers. Smart experienced people continue to stay at the lower level.

    Advice to Management

Your your brains, do not act dumb.

I have been working at Statoil full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Statoil HR people are great at telling stories how awesome this utopia they think they have created will be when in fact it's an awful place full of deceitful, nasty Norwegians and Norwegian wanna be's who think nothing of destroying people's lives and careers through intimidation, retaliation and humiliation.

    Cons

No direction, no feedback, no plan, no measures, no accountability, no truth, no integrity, no honesty, no chance for remaining in USA after making bad decisions and losing billions in shareholder value. Hold the chieftans who made these awful decisions accountable instead of promoting them! Even the Norwegian newspapers called out the former Exploration heads for losing over $2 billion.

    Advice to Management

People on Glassdoor will stop telling the truth about Statoil management when Statoil management starts telling the truth about the poor shape of its business.

I have been working at Statoil full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Many great people at lower levels
    Nice offices

    Cons

There are many concerns, more than the pros.
Benefits are not fantastic as many fake reviews try to make you believe. The benefits were very good some years back but they have now been adjusted down to average. There is no real opportunity for a career unless you are a Norwegian. There are really no opportunities for a global career path. The company is reorganizing themselves almost every 12-18 months because they have no clue what they are doing on the organizational side. Heavy politics, inexperienced and untruthful management, frequent organizational turbulence and change without results. A major concern to anyone thinking to start a career in Statoil is that the company is not making any money, and never have done so in the US. and is likely be shut down very soon since the parent company in Norway is likely to put their investments elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Please advise your employees and managers not to engage in writing fake reviews. Some of the 4 and 5 star reviews posted here at Glassdoor are so unreal and untruthful that they can only serve one purpose, to get the company score up, which it has for the last 6 months without any other reason than fake positive reviews. This company is in some areas average, while in other areas far below average. Truthfulness is neither appreciated nor valued, and 'alternative facts' along with positive storytelling without basis in reality is making poisoning the work environment.

I have been working at Statoil full-time

    Pros

Working for Statoil gives you the opportunity to be any kind of geologist in any kind of operation; research, exploration, operations, structural, development etc.... Navigating to that point and finding your place can be difficult because you tend to be branded and tagged quite easily. If you are flexible with regards to where you can move, then you may have some opportunity. Moving between cities in Norway though is not easy, and it is very costly. If Stavanger or Bergen is the place you want to work, then you can stay there for your entire career. Other cities and countries have projects that come and go. The only foothold for subsurface operatorship Statoil have is in Brazil and Scotland. The US is a completely different company and only have US onshore unconventional as an operator.

    Cons

Statoil have excess subsurface personnel in Norway at the end of 2016. Reductions may come.

    Advice to Management

    None.
