I have been working at Statoil full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture and benefits are great. Statoil really tries to take care of their employees. I like that the rating is also based on behavior so the values that they preach carry through in employee's evaluations. Management encourages new ideas and is not afraid to try new things.

    Cons

The lack of communication that sometimes exists between corporate and the rest of the assets hinders the employee's morale.

    Advice to Management

Statoil does a great job of taking care of people and letting them express new ideas overall but sometimes that culture does not carry out in all the assets of the company.

    Pros

    - Great Medical benefits.
    - Great 401 K plan
    - Great compensation and bonus plan
    - Great European culture.
    - Great Office outlook

    Cons

    - Statoil GBS is still working on improving process and getting organized.
    - Global team leader an IT guy, lacks qualities to be a good leader over a accounting team, due to which JV, Audit, Treasury, and Internal Tax is dealing with unreasonable expectations, bad communication and no support. Statoil values are being butchered by this leader.

    Advice to Management

I agree with another post regarding getting feedback from employees about their leader. Management should look into evaluating this leader and taking correct action accordingly.

4 unique values from other companies; open, caring, hands-on, courageous, that allow the work place to be very collaborative while also challenging upper management. Great company to work for!

    Cons

Management structure a bit difficult to understand due to being a European company but after a while you'll understand it.

    Advice to Management

Encourage to challenge their ideas and very open for constructive feedback.

I have been working at Statoil full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work life balance is discussed and sometimes followed. The company is very organized in its procedures and when they are followed properly than they work.

    Cons

Unless you are Norwegian than the chances of advancement are slim at best. Senior management also needs to really understand how business is done in countries outside of Norway. Salaries compared to the rest of industry are lower without question.

    Advice to Management

To be a global company Statoil need to embrace a world attitude and work within countries and their traditions.

    Pros

    Salaries and benefits
    Friendly co-workers; Open communication
Great company for Norwegians or if you just want to comfortable work place until retirement. It is not a good company for international staff who are ambitious and want to have a successful career

    Cons

Extremely micro managed. Most decisions are made in Norway though head quarter doesn't understand how to run business in the US or onshore.
No real growth potentials for international staff. Most senior positions are continuously filled by Norwegians, even in positions where local should have advantages (e.g. Government and Public Affairs)
Disciplines with least diversity/globalization are Drilling & Wells and Finance

    Advice to Management

If the Company is as serious in globalization as top management says, they should be HUMBLE (one of the company's Values) to recognize that they need international talents to make the company a successful global company.
Stop using North America as a training ground for Corporate's favorite kids.
Less focus on politics and more focus on performance in your decisions
