I worked at Steel Technologies full-time

    Pros

I worked in the office, not a plant. The environment is friendly and helpful. There are many additional perks, tickets to games, nights out, food trucks, and a holiday party. The various departments work well together.

    Cons

Customers can be difficult at times, must be comfortable on the phone.

I have been working at Steel Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You get out of what you put into this company. While it may take a few years to be recognized (and promoted) - the company continues to expand and needs good people. The cream will rise and this is a place where you can make a career.

    Cons

Sometimes there are some slackers that stick around (or are kept around) longer than they should be - but I think (and hope) that this is the result of management giving them extra chances to pick up their game. This can get frustrating when you are busting your hump - but it does get fixed (just not as fast as I would like it to some times)...

    Advice to Management

Be picky about who you bring on and it will pay off (plus cut the dead wood as quickly as possible so that we can get our work done and take care of customers)...

I worked at Steel Technologies full-time

    Pros

It was only good experience and for a first job. Some of the people there were cool. Thats about it.

    Cons

You are very under paid compared to other companies that have you do the same jobs. Very poor training. Having you work alot of different machines without training you on it. While i was learning a new machine the trainer stepped outside to go smoke a cigarette while i didnt know how to operate it.

    Advice to Management

Have better training program. Make sure the person who is training you actually cares to train someone new. Also dont make new workers learn every machine within the first day of working there.

    Pros

Steel Tech has wonderful benefits, excellent people working for them, many policies that are meant to maintain a healthy, happy workplace and work-life balance. It's working. It's the first company where I've worked that has more happy people than unhappy people.

    Cons

As with most corporate environments, there is a bit of the typical being promoted by who you know and not necessarily what you are doing or are capable of.

I worked at Steel Technologies full-time

    Pros

Steel Tech is a company filled with good people trying to solve customer problems every day. It's a sales driven organization that wants to grow and treat people well.

    Cons

It's a tough industry that goes through cycles, similar to automotive. Their business systems are old.

I worked at Steel Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

one of the pros to work with this company are the like-minded coworkers typical to this line of work. strong-willed and helpful.

    Cons

One of the downsides to working for this company, at least in my experience, is the lack of downward communication. only the GM has any idea of whats going on; supervisors, managers, team leaders, etc have no idea what to expect day to day, until it is too late

    Advice to Management

as per my "Cons" communication is key to a great work experience as well as leading to better work being done...
